THERE'S NOTHING THAT I REALLY WANT

The STARS tonight are rich and cold
Above my h o u s e | that | vaguely | broods |
Upon a PATH soon lost in the d a r k.

╔════════════════════ ════════════════════╗

Over three thousand centuries have passed since humanity came and settled on Artinnia. The planet was right for the tired race and they gladly accepted it as their own. Cutting off connections with their home planet, they drifted into a comfortable lifestyle over the lush planet.

These ancient astronauts failed to notice a vital point in their solar system. Being part of a binary star system, their life-giving sun slowly began to orbit away from them. The planet began to cool and by now the declining race had lost the technology it once had. Having wished to forget their past, they had destroyed the equipment, the ship that carried them there, and hid the rest miles and miles beneath the surface of the planet. No one planned for it ever to be found.

Now, the race needed it more than ever. Having evolved to a warmer climate, the race wasn't ready for the chilling cold that loomed over them. By the time the sun returned, it would be too late. Not knowing the science of astronomy any longer, the race turned to the gods. Somehow, they had angered the deities, bringing this frightening chill upon them. Only a few chose not to believe this, turning their minds to the heavens. What was happening out there? 'Scientists' were few and hated by civilization. If only that hidden vault could be found...

Now in the present, 'humanity' has been forced onto seven small islands which were made into countries of their own. The civilizations of the past were not hidden beneath the great glacier, Mal Forsnti. All of it has been forgotten except for the modern era. With fourteen beautiful children being born, a prophecy was born with them: they would be the ones to save this world from its destruction. No one knew how but somehow they would.

Now with that placed in the back of their minds, the parents threw a ball in Eraetia, the largest of all seven countries, in the hope of the unknown betrothed to get to know each other. Sadly, that didn't work out. But, how should they know? It was all in the future.

Yes, as Alastríona walked across the marble flooring of the palace, she tugged at the skirt of her emerald dress. It had a tight corset on her chest while the silky fabric flowed over her hips to twirl around her ankles. It was laced and trimmed with golden thread though the sleeves couldn't be considered that. Instead, it was a light fabric that hung gently over her shoulders to create the illusion. Her hair was tied back into a bun with green ribbons while the rest of her short hair framed her fair face. She was not adorned with makeup as most women were her age but instead allowed the chill to create the illusion of a blush on her cheeks. Her lips were given a little bit of color bit other than that, her sky-blue eyes were jeweled enough.

Her skin was as pale as ever just like the rest of her race. Her ears were the same size as her ancestors but instead of rounded, they were pointed at the ends. Her hands held four fingers each and were actually quite small even for everyone else. She currently had one hanging at her side with the other at her lips. Her eyes held worry in them as she scanned the room.

Sighing, the young princess looked around in hope of finding her brother in the throng. She hated being alone in a group of strangers and no one really liked Etar, anyway. In fact, the country of 'pirates', as they were called, had a very bad reputation. Now, she just wanted to disappear. Thus, she made her way to the wall and leaned against it with relief. It was so crowded! She hated crowds!

Thus, she had only one choice left. Her parents would be angry with her if they heard she wasn't socializing with the other members of royalty but why must the courtiers be there as well? Drifting out of the room on silent feet, she wrapped her arms around herself and shivered. What was with her parents and sensuality? Couldn't she be warm instead? Absently tugging at the 'collar' - if it existed - of her gown and walked through the silent halls. She only wished she wouldn't get lost. That, though, was the least of her worries. No, she was lost in thought and not watching where she was going.

For one thing, Alastríona was prone to accidents. Everyone who knew her would be wary of such a thing. Running into the closed door only proved that. Fighting back the tears that jumped to her eyes, she rubbed her throbbing nose and shook her head. Ow! Never run into a door... you'll regret it.

"I-I should go back..." she murmured in that soft, musical voice of hers. She never was very loud and when she tried to be, failed. She could never sound angry either. It was a curse while at the same time a blessing. As a princess it was good, as a princess of Etar, it was bad. "Everything about me is bad for a princess of Etar," she sighed despondently before turning around. Ow. Wall. Groaning, she sat down on the floor and held her head. This was not her night!

"Farewell, bride of my soul. Whatever the heavens decide, that is the path we much go. I pray this isn't the last time I see you."

Prince Cadeyrn of the Vampire nation never had been one to get into trouble or disgrace his family. He had always been the perfect example of a crown prince and/or heir to the throne. This "nation" if you could call it that, was relatively new if you thought about the arrival of the X and Z genes. But, where did the legends arise from? There once had been more but different from what you would picture vampires to be. They did not mind the sun light and did not have to drink human blood. Biting someone did not turn them into a vampire. They could not turn into bats, stakes to the heart could kill anyone, and they could see themselves in the mirror! Most of those legends had no base to them except for a few. Yes, they had one special ability but they did not have super strength or speed - unless, of course, that was that vampire's specific ability. They drank blood. They needed blood... but the older you were the more likely you were to be able to hold it. To become a vampire, you needed the X gene or to be born into it. Nothing else.

Most of all.. lycans, the enemy, were what they savored more than anything. To give them anything else is like giving water to an alcoholic. This particular being had something against it all. He had lived for much longer than most yet he still refused to kill to feed. If he drank blood without killing the host, his venom would become part of who they were, a mark upon their flesh more intimate than any other mark or action that pair could accomplish. That person is claimed by the vampire as their own. He could never do that. Why would he wish to find himself locked in a bond he could not free himself from? And yet, the memory of destroying life to prolong his own sickened him. At times he was forced to but to feed his almost obsessive actions, they gave him indirect ways to drink blood. Sometimes he would even push himself past his physical and mental limits to lose himself to the other being within his soul... the one who calls himself the "Vampire".

Even now he stood on a cold road in the dark of night, a hand at his throat. That was the reason now that he was so hungry. Oh, how it burned, his sharp fangs that appeared with his thirst racking against his tongue. His eyes, usually the color of gems were hard and crimson, glistening like rubies instead of amethysts. Finally, however, he bit his finger so deeply that his fang sank into it, allowing his own blood to wash over his tongue. His eyes rolled closed and he took a shuddering breath. He needed to exercise more self-control but he was stupid to not plan this out. His parents knew him well so they had kept it secret. Of course, that only meant he would leave earlier.

With a huff, he licked it clean and rubbed his slowly returning eyes. It had not sated his thirst but it soothed his throbbing throat for now. Thus, he continued forward, allowing the soft breeze to keep his long hair from his face. At least he had brought a bag and a coat. He smiled faintly though it held no humor, only sick irony. Strange, wasn't it? Shaking his head, he focused on the sound of his feet crunching over the gravel. He had no idea where he was going. All he wanted to do was be gone. The road would lead him somewhere.

"Well," he whispered faintly, closing his eyes as he walked slowly forward, "Freedom never meant you got to be free..."

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

Flames danced across the shadowed room with a burning light to morph the form of shadows unseen in what could have been centuries and stretching to millennia. There was not a single breeze escaping into the room filled with the stench of rot and old parchment. However, her gentle breathing caused the flickering candle by her side to flicker and dance in its alien way. She paid little attention to the flame or the strange surroundings about her. Her blue-gray eyes danced over a piece of ancient parchment carefully rolled back with her pale, slender fingers. The writing upon it was alien to her and yet it was also familiar. She could catch simple phrases across it that slowly began to form into some understanding.

Here far below the planet surface was a place only she knew about. She had been here only a few times before but these strange records she found seemed to draw her. They were sketched with strange images and words that she could not recognize. She wanted to understand the meaning behind the intricate net of lines mingled with curves of circles and symbols. She wanted to know this strange language that wrote with their alphabet yet made little sense to her mind. She could understand words a few times but phrases and meanings escaped her a lot of the time. Her own sheafs of papers lay littered over the small wooden desk that at first looked like it would collapse if she had touched it. She had written down single sentences in a fight to understand their meeting. It would take a long time and she knew it. If only she could have help. She knew she had no one to ask who she could trust, though...

There will one day spring from the brain of science a machine or force so fearful in its potentialities, so absolutely terrifying, that even man, the fighter, who will dare torture and death in order to inflict torture and death, will be appalled, and so abandon war forever.

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

Where the sky meets the sea and the crystalline ocean meets the white-washed beach stood a girl with hair the color of the setting sun. Her eyes met the ocean as its sapphire waves churned and threw their foaming white mists into the air. The sound of the sea reached her ears, the soft roar and the cascading splashes of the waves thrown to the sky. The smell of salty air mixed with an aroma sweet and intoxicating, pulling from the land at her back with its exotic flowers, fruits, and spices. Here this met her, tossing her hair about her, causing it to dance across her sun-touched skin, smooth and unblemished.

Her face was serene, a smile pulling up the corners of her lips to curl them into her fair features. This met her eyes, eyes the color of the aqua sea against the eve of her hair. Even against her bliss, the touch of her home with its unblemished lands there was a sorrow in her features, a touch against her cheeks, a curve to her throat and breast. A heaviness touched her being while the sea tossed its bosom to the sky and crashed to the white sands. The sun shone warmly upon her bare shoulders, caressed her body with its welcoming touch. Only once was the sun throw into hiding, tossing her into a brief shadow. Only one of the few puffy clouds left its glow to continue on its journey against the face of the endless sky.

Areli closed her eyes, breathing deeply of the scent of this world she knew so well. Spring had returned and warmth creeping into the world. The remains of the great squall were disappearing, moisture heavy in the air to create a stifling humidity. For one who had lived in this world for so long, it was nothing at all but the caress of an old friend on her frame. There was damage to the island, yes, but not as much as it could have been. Most of the debris had been cleared away. The forest would heal. It always had.

"The world is forever unchanging but the people within it are born and die like a wisp of foam from the waves..." she murmured, her eyes opening again. Behind her lay her footprints in the white sands, untouched by the waves or the wind that tumbled about her. They remained, a single pair that headed to the sea. Alone except for the cry of the gulls and the whispers of the wind over the song of the sea. "In a blink of an eye..." the island girl whispered, her lips moving slowly without haste, "all will end so a new life can begin."

For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.

She had written down single sentences in a fight to understand their meeting. It would take a long time and she knew it. If only she could have help. She knew she had no one to ask who she could trust, though...

Giving a sigh, Princess Iseult of Eraetia pushed away from the desk and rested her head against it. She had been at this a while and was extremely lucky the strains from lack of sleep did not show on her fair features. She had long dark hair that flowed down her back and eyes the color of blue-tinted gray. Her ears were pointed elegantly and her hands holding only four fingers on each. She was small and slender but more fair than most of her race for the reason she was of royal blood. She moved with a simple elegance that she was born with and was taught as she grew. However, she also knew how to live a life "not" as a princess. To be more than the figure head but a person as well.

Standing slowly and fixing her long dark sapphire dress, Iseult she ran her fingers gently through her loose locks. They were fixed on her head in an intricate lacing of braids. The rest fell down over her shoulders and back like a cascade of dark water. Upon her head rested a silver circlet wound with another to form a glistening wreath embedded with jewels. It nestled and glittered in her hair while standing out with its light color. She knew she had to look her best for this... ball that had been planned a while back. She knew that but she hadn't heard the news until about a month ago.

Whatever. Walking up the stairs, she looked around with wary eyes before going through the portal to a hallway long deserted. She had to make sure no one followed her or knew about this place. So far, she looked like she was safe. Shutting the ancient door, she moved through the hall made of a strange material she couldn't place. It didn't seem natural to Artinnia but maybe she could figure that out later. Hidden in that mass of archives had to be the answers to everything, right? Well, she didn't have time anymore. Somewhere in her mind she knew the time would come when her parents would marry her off to a prince of another country or maybe a nobleman of her own nation. Whomever it was, it wasn't going to be her choice. Now she had to wait for the new arrivals whenever they appeared. Hopefully soon... if they weren't already there. If so, she would find her self in more than a little trouble later on.

"Where are you, you stupid brother?"
