Let's face it, we all want something in our lives. We have dreams, wishes and goals
that seem way too far off to even get a solid grasp on the possibility of them even
happening. Everyone has their own story, their own reason to participate in this game,
whether it be that impossible dream, a thirst for adventure, or a feeling of power, they
made that choice, and there was no way out of it except to win.

Welcome to a world of perpetual darkness. Said to be the mirror of our future home, it
is nothing but a barren wasteland with creatures hiding in the shadows, and no light to
save you from them.

Let me introduce to you the first handful of eager, curious contestants where the game was
in it's earliest runs. Receiving an invite through the mail, the players were thrown into this
whole new world in the future, which, to us, would be considered the present day. The game
supposedly went smoothly, until it came upon when the "victorious" team was crowned the
winner by a large gap. Those individuals were released from that world with their prize in tow...
until everything crashed upon a select few, and they were involuntarily sucked back into the
game they thought they completed.

Their win was considered to be void, because of "foul"-play, and as punishment for
bypassing the rules, they not only were trapped into that world forever, but they were
cursed with a... peculiar hunger for tortured human souls.

Those young adults call themselves GHOSTS, left behind and dead in the real world,
unseeing to light and desiring vengeance, they serve no purpose but to watch other new
contestants of the game come and go, and welcoming the disqualified or losing team into
their world forever. Basically, the strongest and only "organization" in that world, they
hunt and feed on the losing contestants against their will. This is their new home, they
so thought.

It's been decades, and the city is already populated with the past "losers" of the game,
settled in with their fates accepted. Rinse and repeat, the winners would leave the world
with their prizes and the losers would resort to finding a home in darkness. People make the
same mistakes, and even more GHOSTS populate the city as a new game is reset. Time
continues, and the new batch of contestants will be introduced to their world once again.

It seems like the winners just don't get it.

Interestingly enough, the GHOSTS found a loophole. They ...only they - have a chance to
make it back to the real world. By playing a game themselves, a betting game to be exact,
on a team. Assisting them with their own, more developed powers, sharing a life force,
these like-minded individuals plan on "catching a ride" out from the world they believe
they don't belong in.

It's not a game about prizes anymore.

The contestant will be thrown into one of the two teams, whether they like it or not.
Each member will share some kind of special bond relating to their life energy, and
that energy will be shared amongst their team members.
Teams now have the option to form an alliance with GHOSTS, which will boost that
team's power quite significantly. The catch is, they can easily withdraw from your team
anytime they wish. GHOSTS must feed on people to survive, but they only feed on
humans that harness a certain criteria.

The game goes by a "point" system. Points are represented in medium-sized glass
balls that are quite heavy and cold to the touch. Each game session requires a
certain number of points to move a spot towards the "finish line". There are different
ways where Points will be given, from mindless tasks to an all out battle, the
possibilities are endless. Objectives are not given everyday.

It's actually not that much different from our world today. Streets are busy,
technology is still at our fingertips, and businesses run as well. The whole city is
filled with only disqualified or losing contestants, who have already accepted their
fate of being stuck there for the rest of their lives. The climate is constantly chilly,
and the dull light of the moon is what the citizens wake up to everyday. The darkness
is a perfect habitat for rare, yellow-eyed creatures called NEROS, who prey on any kind
of living creature and run rampant on the outskirts of town. Everything beyond the city is a
mystery.

ones in shitty quality. I recommend using zerochan.net for some good hi-res pictures. Ahem,

Holy s**t, I am STRICT about activity. I know school sucks, I know work sucks, I know life
sucks -- unfortunately, I still want you to be posting frequently. This RP will be considered
moderate to fast paced, so please try to keep up. Don't be a dumbass -- if you know you're
going on vacation for a month in a few days, WTF, don't join. =___= If you know you
are/will be busy with work/school, don't bother joining as well. Use common sense, friends!
If you will be gone for quite a long period, please mention it in the OOC, and if needed, push
your character to the side in the story so it won't hold up the roleplay. I want to keep this going.
Speaking of keeping things going, I also ask that you frequently hit up the OOC. Not only do
you miss epic discussions concerning plot by avoiding it, but you'll make me shed an emo tear
because I do like to talk.

Okay, this RP will be considered literate. I would say around 300 words is the minimum. That's
not hard, just keep in mind that you need to give enough meat for other people to respond. I also
don't want huge-a** posts with content consisting of over analyzed s**t no one cares about.
Especially if we have to wait days for it. Keep people interested, keep people wanting to know
more about your character, but most importantly, KEEP THE STORY MOVING. I prefer what you
would call "aggressive" roleplayers - interact with other characters, start s**t up, and don't rely
on one person on plot twists. I love twists, so please don't be shy.
You've got lots of freedom. You've got the whole city at your disposal. You've got your own
NPCs. Betrayal, murder, and all that good stuff in encouraged. I stress story over anything else.
Hell, it goes on top of literacy for christsakes. Lastly, make your posts beautiful, deemit, and if
you need help, I'm here.

Follow the Gaia ToS. There will be action, but there will be no killing unless the person
controlling the character allows it/leaves. NPC slaughtering is okay. In fact, it's splendid. 8D
Fighting is encouraged, and so is romance, but don't take it overboard. I will allow all types of
pairings here. Last, be respectful (don't be a jerkass) to your other RPers and use RPing
etiquette. Godmodding, meta-gaming, etc is absolutely not accepted. I will punch a cat if you do.

A group of individuals trapped in a mysterious game for eternity find a way to escape
by using current contestants as tools to grant themselves and their comrades freedom.

GHOSTS }| Winners of the game, though disqualified because of "foul"-play. They were left behind
in the world because they killed someone in-game, which is against the rules if it is not
specified otherwise. As punishment, they are forced to eat losing contestants in order to
function, but only humans that are in tormenting grief. GHOSTS are the only residents of the
city that still have their powers, and have the chance to get back to the real world. They have
devised a strategy to aid the current contestants, and plan to use the points for themselves as
their own team. In the real world, they are either known to be dead, or have disappeared.

CONTESTANTS }| People who desire something so impossible, they would
put their life on the line just to make it happen. They came to play for solely one reason - to win,
and nothing else. Invited by the game itself, the temptation to deny was factored out by their
current state of mind... they are selfish, they are desperate, and they are sad, sad people.

NEROS }| Our Earth seems to be populated by various shadow-like beings
which tend to gather around sparsely-lit areas. They mostly reside on the outskirts of town
where it is most dangerous, and they feed on anything living, swallowing up souls in a matter of
seconds, leaving only their body to rot. Delicious.

1920s.

2. Do GHOSTS age?
No, Ghosts do not age. They are supposedly trapped into that world forever, just remember that
time does not distort.

3. Are there only eight contestants total?
No. The four for each are more like... "representations" of the team as a whole. This applies to
GHOSTS as well. There are actually more than four.

4. How did the city manifest?
The city was always there. Ever since the beginning of the game, there were always
skyscrapers, cars, etc. in the game world. Basically, everyone was thrown into somewhat of
an apocalyptic future, mirrored from reality.

Tonight's the night. January 1st, 2011. The music plays as a cue towards the players'
year-long absence from the real world, and a year-long game for a chance of a dream or
a chance of death. In exchange for a power to be granted towards them, a sacrifice must
be made, and immediately, they are thrown into the first objective just to warm up a bit.

Compete over one measly point hidden somewhere in the city and bring it back to to the
team's meeting spot. Hah hah, welcome to the game. We've been waiting for you.
