I'm a out of the loop when it comes to face layering, so my goto is Masquerade and their mascara poses. Especially love how they can give that "tapered" eye effect or just thicker eyeliner for the Blessing items (Cerynitian's my favourite).

Definitely going to dabble with your suggestions - I never thought the Great Ox and recolours can layer so well! Thanks for the inspiration 3nodding

Mashing face items together is one of my favorite things to do in dress up. Not good at doing the realistic or dirty faces but I do enjoy making crazy fantasy like ones. Mostly colorful stuff mashed together.

WHY HASN'T ANYONE SAID SDPlus Cafe Maim???
It's sooo good. It add really nice color to the face and kinda creates really interesting mouths because it adds glossy lips to mouths.
I love pairing it up with Mysterious Captain and Mimi Neko. Neko just makes the cheeks a lot redder emotion_dowant

I do like using Modus Operandi (scarred eyes) and Pusheh's Hood, however I'm more limited with those. Modus has a tendency to not be make up friendly, as it counts as a make up itself. Hood I can only use a few make up poses.

Sometimes I combine Sweet Talker (default pose) + Hey Mama and/or Instant Doki. Mama adds snakebites and Doki adds blush and more width (idk how to explain it lol) to Talker.


Speaking of make up and mods, I still need to buy more of that s**t since I have a lot of facetars now. lack of headless inspo orz

Kind of a small thing I always use is the eye pose from any of the Mysterious Student series; they layer under literally any other eye item, adding a relatively dark eyeshadow, high blush, and earrings (which can be easily covered up). It works best on smaller eye items though~

favorite face items, always fond of transgenic solider.
if its face "combos", it would be layering mouths under the talker items. sweet talker - sexy time + Dappy dandy - coy smirk.
brow basics, cutting large eye items is pretty fun as well.

the purply transparent bruisey looking item? it's in The Life Whisperer and it's the best. my currently most abused face item lol

transgenic soldier 5ever !!!! i wish it didn't unequip so easily. it bums me out lol i'd use it all the time

I can't remember who turned me on to the magic of dirty makeup—it was either you or Hatsu. Either way, I'm in love with action hero + wasteland skin + transgenic soldier. Another combo I'm really liking at the moment is the duchess coy grin + sketchbook lips for lips that are pouty, but not porny. (if that's even a thing…)

i taught hatsu a few tricks mrgreen sadly inspired some scarce pricey buys cry (cough miam doll recolor cough carnival gunpowder doll in dire need of rereleases)

that combo with the wasteland skin is gorgeous. i have a couple and always forget to use them when i was so excited about their ear shape back in the day haha
nice work around for the sketchbook lips. i like their uh look lol but it's fun to manipulate them since they're so large

i love a mouth that has a lil bit of teeth showing. i'll slap that one pensive looking tough talker mouth or one of the lil sweet talker mouths onto a pair of larger lips and it can just look SO coy.

yes !!!! lips on those toothy mouths are the best! i keep playing with that batty mouth in ...tough talker i think? i dunno it has the little tooths it's so cute cry

im bad at faces. I make realism face details more than make up. just invest 3 masquerade, prince's rose and you'll have a better face.

you have like your signature faces though like using them daruma eyes and this gorgeous face you use now which is like so soft and realistic, but then you swap out the mouth and it's like whaaaat totes different

mascara poses can be so fun! i like the lucie mascaras/eyeliners too for oldies but goodies
hope you can have some fun with great ox! it's fairly inexpensive for the amount of face detail it gives

crazy fantasy ones are so fun though when that old Stage Makeup came out and then Maquillage i used to go curazy and smash one of them with masquerade and whatever else i could find xD

i know that nose transition can be hard. when i first started using masquerade i was kinda soso on it like my eyes had to adjust lol noseless for so long. it was hard.

i dunno gonk the original is still under 10bil so yeah it's an investment but...IF YOU USED A DEFAULT LITTLE SAD FACE IT GIVES IT LIPS AND THERE'S LIKE NO SAD LIPS ON GAIA PRACTICALLY OMG classified_fu sorry had a cafe miam doll freak out there

i would use that modus scarred eyes all the time but it makes me have to sacrifice too many face options emotion_donotwant

and the sad little snakebite mouth on hey mama is the shizz i need to experiment more with overlapping it thanks for the heads uppppp

Just wanted to say this thread has been incredibly helpful to me. Thanks to the suggestions of the folks here, I learned about some awesome (and even affordable!) face items/poses I never knew were out there. I just went on a mini shopping spree, and now I have some great new stuff in my face toolbox, so thanks you all!
