• Our eyes cannot see. When we turn the lights off, they see only darkness. Sometimes, the darkness it really the only thing that can be seen. But sometimes, there is so much more to be seen in the darkness. Our eyes cannot see that. Only if we had another eyes…
Sophie opened her eyes. It took her several seconds to realize that the big dark blue spot filling most of her view is actually a leaf of one of the big plants that were growing all around the place she was lying on. This was her second day in this world and she still found it hard to get use to the strange colors of the plants growing here. Truth, the days here were definitely shorter than days on the Earth. She could tell. Still, it had to be the most amazing place of all the worlds she had visited. Not only the plants but also the animals were probably trying to compete for the most creative and interesting color. However during her stay here she saw only a few bigger animals and none of them up close. There were many tiny and small creatures flying around, probably some kind of insect. Even now she could see some red and blue flying in circles high above her, too high for her to see anything.
Sophie's attention was suddenly attracted by a rusting sound, coming from somewhere close. Her senses sharpened as she waited, crouching, like a cat, waiting for her pray. Finally something bright red flew from the high grass just next to her. She jumped and finally her hands closed around the little creature.
"Ha!" she shouted victoriously. "Finally. Now, and here I thought I had no luck. You are quite the fast flyers, aren't you?" Yesterday she actually tried to catch one of these, but they were way too fast for her. From afar, they looked just like big red butterflies. "Now let's take a look at you, shall we? Don't you dare just fly away," she said and with the most excited look she opened her hands a little. The creature inside did not move a bit.
"I hope I didn't hurt you, little one." She opened her hands completely, worried for the creature. But the little thing was sitting comfortably on her hands, staring at her with its bright yellow eyes. From up close, it didn't look like a butterfly at all. More than anything it looked like a weir small lizard. It had only two legs and instead of the front pair it had two folded wings which could be at least twice as long as its body. Long neck shaped as the letter S and thin, long head reminded Sophie of a book about dinosaurs she had read as a little girl. A little dragon, she thought, surprised. "Don't you even try to bite me," she warned it. Only then, looking at it, she realized the little dragon had no mouth at all.
"Now aren't you interesting," she said, looking at it with curiosity. She smiled when the little creature wrapped its long tail around her index finger. On the end of the tail there were eight small thorns with bright red skin between them.
The butterfly dragon suddenly spread its long wings and made a strange, ear-piercing sound. In just a few moments it got several answers from high above and other dragons, red and blue, flew down to the ground. Two decided to sit on her shoulder and another one joined the first one on her hands. The rest landed on the grass and plants around, watching her.
"So you are curious. That's cute," she laughed and sat carefully on the ground again. The dragon she caught spread its wings again. But this time it jumped off her hand. It glided for a while, flying in circles around Sophie, before flying away faster that one would think is possible. The rest of the little dragons remained, though. Sophie carefully put the dragon remaining in her hands on the ground and looked up to the sky, which gave everything quite an alien look, being something between light blue and purple. Almost one quarter of it was filled with a huge purple planet. Sophie had thought about it and decided that it had to be a planet as a moon couldn't possibly be this big. Often the planet hid the white sun and yet the place wasn't dark as the sky was filled with slowly moving clouds shining in silvery light.
From afar she heard the familiar ear-piercing sound. The little dragons looked up. A huge shadow crossed the ground. Sophie stood up and turned around. She saw her old friend, little red dragon. It was sitting on the head of a giant grey dragon.
Sophie froze on the place, not moving at all. The grey giant slowly and carefully folded its wings. It was at least four meters tall. Just as the little red one, it had long neck and a thin head without any mouth. Sophie could only wonder how it eats. Right now, she was quite glad not to know. It was standing on four strong legs and its skin was perfectly smooth with dark spots and stripes all over it, creating interesting patterns. The dragon made several steps towards Sophie. She was very surprised by the fluent and elegant movements it made, not fitting a creature of its size. It lowered its head and was so close that its head was nearly touching Sophie's forehead. The red dragon jumped from the giant's head to Sophie's shoulder and with a silent cat-like purr it found itself a comfortable place to sit there. Sophie stood still, waiting for the dragon to move. Even though she was confident that the dragon meant no harm, because it could have easily killed her already if it wanted to do so, she still didn't want to risk scaring it because one wrong step could turn her into something very flat and dead. For one single moment, the dragon touched her. She opened her eyes, not remembering closing them. The dragon was gone. Confused, she looked around. Her head hurt, like someone had smashed her with something heavy. To her own surprise, she realized that there are memories in her head, memories of something she couldn't recall doing. It was the weirdest feeling she ever had. She saw pictures and places just like she her own memories and yet it was impossible as this was the first time she's visited this planet. There was a place surrounded by grey rocks on which there were black flowers growing and a stream of water, falling down to a deep chasm. She noticed a strange creature, standing on one of the rocks. It disappeared and suddenly reappeared on a tree, growing on another rock below. Then the memory changed and she was looking into the eyes of grey dragon. The last memory was of the dragon that spread its giant wings, started running and jumped, again with unexpected lightness, like it was as light as the air itself. Those were all her memories of a single moment that lasted several minutes.
