• 2. Cats

Chad came to a stop at Caleb’s house. He used his slender fingers to open the door. He walked up to the thin house that was tall. It seemed old on the out side but was normal house inside. Spaces were flowers grew at one time were gardens were now forest of fat weeds. Not much color on the house. An old raggedy side walk stretched to the porches that lead to the pretty red door. Chad walked in and saw Caleb watching an old episode of American idol. He got it from the video store that day.
“Oh, hi Chad,” he said. “Cool you got the groceries! What’s for dinner?” he said like he was 10 and asking his mom.
“Chicken,” Chad said. In Caleb’s house he had an eerie feel that they were dumber and dumber. But the house was far nicer than that. There was a large living room with a TV wii and some C.D's. Behind it was a kitchen that lead up stairs were there was just attic and a window. Two rooms one computer. The house was messy but still clean.
Caleb’s job was being a doctor and he’d finished college the a little early than Chad. Caleb could’ve been living in a mansion if he wanted to be he liked the way he was living. Not a big house, games and computers, and enough food to keep living with still having dessert and two very expensive cats. Caleb had about $200,000 more than he needed witch is why he let Chad live with him.
When Chad was putting away groceries he saw the large rag doll cat rubbing its head on Chad's leg purring. Then the small three mouth year old Siberian cat jumped up on the counter to be petted by Chad. Chad’s favorite things about Caleb’s house were the cats. Roxy the ragdoll cat had been Caleb’s since he was 21 thus making her 6. She was the laziest thing he’d ever seen witch made her perfect for cuddling. She had bright blue eyes the color of the sky and she knew it to. Every ragdoll has blue eyes but Roxy had the prettiest. She was also well behaved and lived up to the standards of a queen. She was Fambino best in show in 2006. Blue ribbon and every thing. Caleb entered her one day when he was watching animal’s planet and realized Roxy was perfect. But he didn’t enter her in any thing else after because he didn’t like travel. She was smart to. Smarter than any cat. Since the moment Caleb bought her it was like she knew perfect English. She knew what you were saying and it seem like Chad and Caleb understood her to. It was almost human. You could tell her something she’d never been thought and weird enough she would do it. You tell her walk to the school and then come to the front door and meow twice she’d do exactly that first time.
“Hey Rockers go give Caleb some company,” Chad said as she slowly worked her way to the couch and curled up in his lap.
“How’s it going Roxy?” Caleb said. Roxy then rubbed her head on Caleb’s chest with a slight smile as the started watching TV again.
All that was left was Annie the cute kitten. She was a Siberian kitten. What was different about her was that she was Chad’s not Caleb’s. She was a graduation gift from Caleb because he knew how much Chad liked cats. Having to tough out the allergies from Roxy he knew that Chad couldn’t handle two. Then he found out about the Siberian witch was hypoallergenic and still beautiful fur. With all the extra money it was no problem for Caleb. He found a place in Seattle and brought Chad.

It was a warm Saturday evening when they had arrived. Chad was looking around for any type of object that might spark an idea for a book. During all the extra time they saw a mariner’s game against the rays. They were rooting for both sides because they both liked Tampa as much as Seattle.
They were walking fast because of two reasons the 5 hour drive from Fambino to Seattle and the fact that they wanted to see the cat in person. When they were looking for cats they searched in “very intelligent hypo-allergenic cats from the Washington state area”. The reason was that Chad wanted a cat that was as smart as Roxy and not lazy and it wouldn’t make him sneeze. Caleb said they’ll try but it will probably never happen in a thousand years. But sure enough they found one response. They clicked it and found the one breeder in all of Washington. There were 5 cats all for $500 but one was $2000 for its unique gift. And they reserved the orange Siberian cat.
” Can you believe that!” they both said. And then slowly they said “it’s amazing.” They were dumbfounded that in two months it would be that they owned the world’s two smartest cats.
It was a rainy day when they came to the cat store right next to Safeco field and saw the small corner that had a sine saying that there was, “3 beautiful Siberian kittens in the room, you can meet there parents to!”
They came in and saw the small room that had many kitten clearance sales filling the corners.
“Oh why hello!” a small woman about in her thirties said, “how may I help you this wonderful evening?” then Caleb said “were here for one of your Siberian cats,” said Caleb as he walked toward the kittens. All three were play fighting in there box. Over to the right on the ground were the parents.
“So were does the special one get its brains?” ask Caleb. “I own a cat with a similar case and I want to see if this is the real deal.” Then the lady told him, “there both very unique. You can ask either one.
“ Susie, Max, this man want to talk to you” the two cats turned there heads to the lady and seemed as if to ask “ witch one,” the lady responded pointing here finger to Caleb and said “ him you dummies, its like you never listen.” The cats turned there heads and there body language plus a meow seemed to say “well sooorry!”
Their heads were turned to Caleb. Then he got down to there level and said,” so witch one of your children got your gift?” They walked slowly to the box were there children sat. And two frosty black heads lay eyes on a small orange kitten.
The parents pulled her out of the fight and she sat down looking at her parents there meows to here were translated as “you better be good,”
Then her orange head lifted up and the little green eyes gave full attention here ears stood up and he saw her white chest witch proved to him that she was white with orange strips. And with the way she was sitting it seemed to him that this was the “puss in boots” look from Shrek two she was giving him. Her siblings paid no attention what so ever to the small orange kitten sitting with perfect attention waiting for what they’d say.
“What should we ask her?” said Caleb in a whisper. “Were I three hours ago?” said Caleb as a joke.
But the kitten just turned its head. “It’s smart, not physic, Caleb,” said Chad and then leaned over to see the small kitten all most as small as a Gatorade bottle.
“Are you runt little guy,” said Chad. Then the small little kitten nodded yes. This was perfect for Chad. The smaller the better.
Ok now let’s see if you’re smarter then Roxy no that will truly be incredible, Chad thought. “So little guy do you know math?” Chad said. Another nod yes. How could a cat know math it seem impossible? It was just a kitten how could these people tell it this and train it in 3 months!? No this cat just had something weird up its sleeve that Chad liked.
“Seven times seven,” Chad said, “just meow the answer. “The cat paused for a second and put a little grunt on her face as if she knew how to do this but just hadn’t done it in a while. In fact, that was the exact look she had. But how could that be? Then the cats grunt turned into a smile and than it started meowing.
“Meow meow meow meow meow…” and so on until it reached 49. Than it started a quick smile that said,” how you like them apples?”
The very second the cat started meowing Caleb started laughing. This cat was three months old and had the brain of a 3rd grader. Roxy had the brain of a 4 year old by the time she was one. This cat wasn’t just gifted this cat was super natural.
They were both surprised that these people didn’t show case there cats. (Probably the three smartest, the smartest being only 3 months old.) It might have been possible that they knew all cats like this. But how could they all be in Washington? Cats with this talent couldn’t be this common. They assumed that it was just Washington.
This cat seemed different from Roxy very different actually. Roxy was lazy this cat was active. Roxy knew the vocabulary and this cat knew every thing.
“Yeah were definitely going to take her,” Caleb said. He slapped 2000$ dollars into the women’s hand. As they took the kitten the parents didn’t seem to mad they were happy for there daughter. Look on there faces was telling Chad to take good care of her. They went into there car with the tinny kitten lying down on Chad’s lap with a smile on her face. A quick run to the pet store and they were gone.

They were an hour from Fambino. There was blue sky and lots of farm land. Chad was surprised to see chow many cars were on the road. The farms had apple on one side and wheat. You could see some low clouds and there shadows gliding right beneath them. Small mountains were stretched across the land in a way that was simply amazing. The drive to Fambino to Seattle and Seattle to Fambino on a day like this was a blessing. Chad’s fifth time to Seattle Caleb’s 15th and there new cat (witch was named Anna) first.
As soon as they got to the nice part of the drive Annie put her head up to look out the window. Her small paws planted on the window for hours. Then they came to a small wheat farm when Annie started making a sound that started a growl and turned in to a loud hiss that could be compared to a car alarm.
Caleb and Chad quickly noticed this and made faces as if they were sucking on lemons. “WHAT THE HECK DOES IT WANT!” said Chad?
“WHAT WERE YOU SAYING ABOUT HATS AND THAT YOU WANT ONE!” said Caleb?
“GOD PLULL OVER I THINK SHE NEEDS TO GO TO THE BATHROOM!!!!!,” Chad screamed.
Caleb then drove to the curb. Chad opened the door to let it go do its business. But it turns out it didn’t have to go to the bath room. Instead it did something totally unexpected. The small orange kitten darted out of the car and into the field. Caleb and Chad followed but were to slow and just decided to walk and in about 30 minutes the came to the cat. There standing still in the wind was a cold black scary as hell scare crow that made them all jump when they saw it. It was cloaked in a black cape and was all carved up by the small kitten now chewing on its black head witch it carved open to see that the head shape was formed by a watermelon giving the effect that it was bleeding.
“Have you seen it before Caleb asked the kitten,” the cat nodded.
Chad looked over to see a pale face of Caleb looking into the black scarecrows gushing for head. “Caleb what the heck is you talking about?” Chad asked.
“I’ll tell you later Chad. But let me tell you something about this cat. It’s seen the thing in my nightmare Chad! This kitten knows what it is what it’s killed! Wait, have you Annie?” Caleb said this and Chad got scared.
” That things not real Caleb it’s all in your-,” Chad was interrupted by Caleb screaming,” it real what I have it’s more than dreams it’s the thing I’ve been seeing since that birthday! Remember are 12th birth day. Of course you do. I need to ask this cat if it’s had any contact with that. Have you Annie? Do you know who it is?” the cat lifted its water melon covered face. The cat had the same look as Caleb. It nodded, yes. Caleb took the cat in his arms and they walked slowly back to the car and began the drive home.
“Caleb,” Chad said,” what were and who is this thing?”
Caleb paused for a moment and then spoke up.” It’s the reason why I was so afraid of everything when we were 14 and 15. After that accident is when it started coming to me in dreams, talking to me and showing me the history of were it had levied for a very long time. It cursed me; it’s why I know it’s real. It lives’ in an hour in a place I don’t know were but it’s big and haunted. It hates these things! I don’t want to know why I have to.”
Chad asked a question,” You said it’s killed people.”
Caleb answered.” Darn write its killed people. It’s killed like a thousand! It’s been here forever. When god created people the devil created something to, it created this monster. I see why the cat could have gotten it mixed up with the real thing. It looks just like that but taller and bony. Not to mention it’s always caring around this big sword. I’ve know no one person who knows it. And all the people who have seen it must be dead. It only comes out for an hour though. And it’s only eats it people that it likes as a friend. It says it kills people who it knows or reminds them of. I think I might be on the list. And now this Einstein kitten says she knows. Witch it impossible I mean how! It just wouldn’t work!” the cat looked at him shaking her head no.” what it’s not like you’ve seen it. You’ve spent your life I Seattle right.” Another no. “So you’ve really seen this thing?” then there was a yes head knod. “You are a very confusing cat” Caleb said.
“Or maybe,” said Chad, “she’s just special.” He said with a little baby face witch seemed to tick Caleb off
Then the cat sat on Chad’s lap and took a nap as if its life was as confusing to Chad and Caleb as was to her. “You know it’s really rare for them to be orange,” said Chad.
Then Caleb said the last words of the trip, “well then I guess she really is special than Chad. I bet she’ll get along just fine with my ‘special’ cat to, just no problem let’s see.”

They arrived at Caleb’s raggedy old house and the walked right in side to the dreamy inside. And there was Roxy stretched out on the floor. The following things are what you should not do when you introduce to cats to each other.
“HEY ROXY YOU GOT A FREEEEIINNND!” Caleb said. Roxy sprang to her feat because to her this weird old ally cat just walked into HER house. They let Annie go and she walked around and explored the house. Roxy to lazy to care didn’t really care at first be then she found the energy to get to her feet.
Her brown face yawned and she walked over to the window seal and said to the young kitten, “Hey punk get down here I need to talk.”
Annie responded,”yes master I will do what ever you say.”
Then Roxy,” good because I really don’t want you trying to play with me because I'm lazy, and since you seem as smart as me I’ll be your friend got it.”
Annie answered, “Yes I get it.” Annie adjusted well to the house. She never did anything bad. She’d gladly snugly on your lap and never tried to leave. Annie was also an out side cat. She would often get out side and often go as far as the local high school witch was a mile away. Amazingly, Annie even one time got Roxy to get up and come with her. It was over 2 hours before they got back thanks to Roxy's slow walking and frequent rest is what Chad and Caleb thought. But Roxy turned out to be quite fast because she was interested in what Annie said she was going to show her. It was something almost paranormal and Roxy wanted to see the place were it happened. The story took long to tell and Roxy was amazed. Roxy never looked at and thought about Annie the same. For now Roxy understood as much as you soon will be what Annie was. Annie was now much more respected.

Back at the kitchen Chad had gotten done putting away the food. “Let’s go watch some TV,” Chad said. And just like that Annie jumped on his shoulder like a parrot. Then Chad sat down with his cat and watched all the idol episodes of season 5. He would save the conversation for the next mourning.
