• Chapter 1
    My Name Is Mecca

Can anyone remember when the world, was a completely different place? I can remember, for I am not human. I am, only merely a reflection on everything that life stands for. I am not human, I do not bleed and cradle my flesh when it has been cut, or severed. I am Mecca, and I will live forever. I was born, and a time that you can’t possibly remember. I was born a human child but I was soon turned into the bionic thing I am today. I remember the day exactly when they turned my flesh and bones into metal and wires. It was December and my parents we just putting up the Christmas tree, I was excited to see the beautiful tree covered with the different ornaments. I was only 16 and this was our first year we have got a tree. My father the chief-technician at the robot company Robotron. I was weak and was suppose to never be able to walk and it was right until then. My father said he came up with a way to help me walk, little did I know that it would lead to my outcast and destruction. My name wasn’t always Mecca that is only the name I chose for myself my true name has not been said out loud since before my abandonment, but it still dwells in my mind to this very day, Nina, the only girl out of six children, but I didn’t care I still had a family.
I remember the morning of my surgery, it was different my father was silent and my mother had been crying, even though she wasn’t now I could tell. My brothers all glared at me with disgust, but I sat, silent, feeling more alone then I could almost bare. I felt the hate in my sibling’s eyes but I ignored them and looked forward to the day ahead. I looked at my father with excitement “Father, is today the day I will be able to walk?” my father looked at me wearing a fake smile “Yes my dear girl, today is the day I have waited for since I first held you in my arms.” My father walked over to my wheelchair and wheeled me out to the van. I remember how anxious I was to stand I wanted it for so long. I would do anything to be like everyone else, but no matter how hard I could try I wouldn’t be normal.
Then we stopped at the building where my father worked and he helped me to the operation room, where they took test and prepared to make me into a bionic child. I looked at my father nervously and asked “Are they going to mess with my mind?” but my father never answered and they put this thing over my face and I couldn’t help but fall asleep. I woke up to my father crying and I looked at him and I sat up and moved my legs over the side of the bed. ”Father, “I said looking at my father. He looked at me and said “I’m sorry for doing it to you.” I stood up and looked into the mirror, and out of the horror of seeing 80% of my body now mechanical let out a scream of terror ”What did they do to me?” I said staring into the mirror. My father stood up and walked behind me and put his hand on my shoulder to comfort me “They made you a machine in the image of a 16 year old girl” I pulled my shoulder away from him and turned around and said “I am your daughter how could you let them take it this far?” he looked at me tears in his eyes ”I didn’t mean……” but I inturepted”I just wanted to walk and now you made me a freak.” He stepped toward me but I had heard enough and in a slit second I was jumping through the window and landing on the ground 6 stories below making an imprint into the street. I stood up in what little clothes I had, which was, merely to keep me feeling human. I ran into the woods and kept running until I was lost.
I looked at myself and studied my figure even though my robotic parts were showing from the neck up I was human the rest was metal plates to protect the hardware. The shell was created to my body figure, from my shoulders to my toes was all robotic. I had all the figures of a teenage girl, the legs, the abdomen, and the chest of my previous body was all mechanical. I naively thought that if I wore enough clothing that I could eventually fit in, but I soon found out that could never happen. I know I am not the first bionic human or robot so I would fit in there. I heard of a city filled of them where they sell flesh spay that would recreate the flesh that was on the body of the person by simply giving a DNA sample. I slipped the sport’s top and sweat shorts on and continued into the forest knowing where to go or where I was going. I knew to stay away from anywhere super populated because I would be judged. There are 500 million bionic humans and even more robots how much of a freak could I be? I walked until I reached a small town. I walked into a small diner and sat at the bar with my hair in a ponytail. The cook looked at me along with a mother and her two children who were paying attention to the robotic woman who was waiting on service. The bartender walked over to me and smiled “Nice day for a jog today isn’t it?” he said. ”huh, oh yeah.”I said looking around nervously. “What would you like, a pint of oil, or a repair?” he said rudely. A couple bikers sitting behind her laughed at what the man said. I glared at him “Do y u have a problem with me?”I asked.”No, I just have a problem with your kind.” he replied as the bikers stood up and walked up behind me. “Look I don’t want any trouble I just need to know where I am.”I said standing up. The bikers grabbed me by the shoulders and threw me up against the wall.”Well well what do we have here, a detail chip?” He said pulling a chip out of me side. ”Hey Lawnie fetch me the comp let’s see where this little whore comes from” said one of the bikers as the bartender slid down a small laptop. The biker put the chip into the laptop and began reading “Nina Halter, Age 16, subject for surgery to become the first female bionic assassin was put into the project be her father Kevin Halter. Her bones are fragile and unable to support her weight even as a child. She will be commissioned into the project and 100% of her body will be mechanical even her head which will be recreated so that she is unaware of the control chip. She will be fitted and able to control all 21 weapons built into her body that is activated and distributed by voice command.” The biker looked at me as I smiled”Katina,” I said hoping for a weapon. The blade slowly revealed itself as it came out of the back of my hand. The bartender looked at the biker “continue reading man.” he said pulling a shotgun from the wall.”She will be indestructible and will fight back in defense.” He said as he finished reading. I grabbed the nearest biker and threw him over the bar counter. A second Katina overall I felt great, I didn’t know what the sensation was that suddenly I felt throughout my body, but I wasn’t about to stop and ask.
I don’t know why but I suddenly felt as if I now held these men’s lives in my hands. The feeling of power I never felt before was fighting to control my very soul, but I was fighting it back. In a minute of sheer joy at the divine be doing these men, as it a favor. I soon realized that favor I would be giving them is the escape from themselves. I then knew of what was the right thing to do. I looked at the bartender “Do you have a bottle of instant flesh?” I asked walking to the counter. He pumped the shotgun and shot at me scarping my side I looked at my side shocked about being shot but then I soon got over the fear of pain and looked at him. He seemed to panic and looked at the man with the laptop “Does she have a pain sensor?” he asked pointing the gun at her. The bartender read the schematics of what I had become. He kept looking until he eventually found my pain sensor. He rushed my side and punched my hip activating my pain sensor, and instantly without warning I fell to my knees in pain. The bartender ran over and grabbed me and threw me out of the building along with a small can of Instant Flesh. I brought myself to my feet and used the can to create myself back into an almost normal human except one of my shoulders that would at least give me the impression that I wasn’t all robotic. I looked towards the sunset and started on my way down the empty and lonely road. After a day of walking I was exhausted and I could start to hear the mechanical parts in my legs whirring giving the sigh that I needed to rest, but like the teenager that I was I kept going until my body felt like falling apart. I walked into a small building weak, hurting, and in a deranged state. I didn’t even read the sigh; I just walked through the door and collapsed onto the floor.
