• Some animals are very special, some aren’t, and then some are familiars.

It started with a little house cat who, before her owner’s eyes, took the form of a human-like creature. She had the looks of a woman not including catlike ears and tail and her hair held similar pattern as her tabby fur. But she still had the traits of a cat, behavior, diet, balance, flexibility. This was only the beginning. More were discovered, wolves, dogs, Lions, birds, and many more. It was estimated that one in every five puppy litters would have one young that had the ability to switch from animal to not quite animal or human. There was no way to predict it, and no way to tell whether the animal could or could not until it happened or the animal talked.

After many years, they developed a name and reputation. The “familiars” were considered evil and forced to live in isolated areas or kept as a sort of slave. They were said to be demons hiding in the form of the animal they represented, or even the product of sin. Familiars were hated and feared for their strengths, weaknesses, and differences. To own a familiar was a status symbol or courage, strength, and respect…

And this is where he grew up…
