• Flame of the Phoenix

This is the story of how the tribe of eternal fire began. 1,000 years ago, to tell the truth its 997 however that doesn’t really matter does it? What does matter is that that long ago there was a young boy who was out working in his father’s fields.

“Just about done”, the boy said as he wiped the sweat off his brow. He turned around just in time to see a strange golden creature rush to the ground. Jogging over to the strange creature he noticed a large oozing cut in the bird’s left wing. As if this wasn’t odd enough the bird opened his mouth and words began to flow out. “I was that close so hitting them too….. Now I’m stuck in this god-forbidden place” he said with a scowl, he then continued by spitting out some unrepeatable swear words to express his anguish. “Umm… Hello I’m Kilf. I hate to sound rude, but do you need any help?” The young boy stammered. Surprised someone was there listening to his rant, he cocked his head and replied, “No… WHAT DO YOU THINK, OF COUSE I NEED HELP!” Overwhelmed by the odd being Kilf took a step back and dashed into the house. As he came back out with a bandage it was pouring rain.

As Kilf reached the bird he said, “Aww man just what we need around here, more rain…”. The bird looked up at him and if a bird could smirk he did. “Actually… That may be just the thing I need to get this old set of wings back in the air…” The gold bird replied while nodding to a strange beam of light.

“What the…” the boy gasped with a very confused look on his face. Then the bird cackled. “As with all things there is a reason.” “W…W`h...Why is there a beam of light?” The boy asked cautiously. “You think we live in the desert, because we like the heat? More like the warning signal only goes of in the rain.” He looked back at the boy and realized his mistake “Gah me and my big beak…”, Then he swore some more.

Figuring he had nothing to lose he told the boy his story. By the time they had finished they sat in silence dripping wet from the relentless rain. As it turns out he was not any normal bird (if the talking and gold part hadn’t clued you in your hopeless.) He was a phoenix one of the last ten.

After listening to his story the boy remember his hand and looked at it, then back at the bird. “That won’t even affect my wing he said in a gentle tone. “The only thing that can help that is my pendent.” “But your flame..” the bird cut him off “is missing… along with the pendent.” Kilf sighed, then said, “How did you get here in the first place then?” he whispered. The bird sighed and slowly shook his head. “I’ll give you the short quick answer. The Blackened One…”

“So… that beam of light?” the golden creature cut him off again. “is the pendent. Stupid thing glows in the rain.” “Soo…” It was the birds turn to ask questions. “why don’t you just go bring the golden pendent and bring it back to me and we will pretend we never met.” The bird said with a smirk I his voice.

The bird sat as the boy dug his boots out of the growing amount of mud. As he reached the spot where the pendent was, he yelled to the bird “Umm… You might want to come here…”

As the bird waddled over (it was the best he could do ok!?) he sighed. When he saw what Kilf was referring to he froze, still as stone. There were two.

One of the pendants he recognized as his. It was a lovely golden color the same as his feathers. However this wasn’t the reason he was still... The reason was the other pendent was a crimson blood color. A simple bedtime story flashed through his mind that his mother had told him long ago. ”As death seems nearer than the dawn of tomorrow, a hero shall arise from the ashes. From one flame shall spread two, one as golden as the son the other the color of the fallen ones.” At the time it seemed like a silly bedtime story… that was now. It was his duty to give the other pendent to him, he picked his up and was consumed in the flames of redemption as his wing regained its true shape. He told the boy the simple story and he understood his duties. Picking up the pendent a glorious flame surrounded him as a strange force worked its way, shrinking him, changing him.

He was now one of them… a phoenix.
