My name is Garrett. I'm the kind of person who observes the scene from the background. I like the quiet and I like to know things.
I can't say that I'm too popular with people; I can be unintentionally abrasive and fall prey to having bad days. When I do, people know it.
I'm lazy and uninvolved. I like to work by myself and could go days without saying a word to anyone or myself. Conversely, I do enjoy talking to people--some people. Mainly if you're willing to talk to me, I'll talk back.
I would style myself a talented artist--which is NOT the same thing as a skilled artist. I believe I could draw far better than I do, but I don't. My creative fingers dip into many cookie jars: writing, drawing, making video games, sculpting clay, linoleum block carving, making wind chimes... heh. I cannot paint, and some things I would definitely do if I knew how would be: making music, computer graphic art (can't do--wah!), acting, singing, dancing, and more... I want to do a lot of things. Can't learn them all though, I guess.
I have visiting the Hoover Dam, the Statue of Liberty, and every place in between. I honestly don't care for traveling much, and have never lived anywhere but my beloved hole up in Texas, but sometimes you need to go places. My absolute favorite spot to visit was Slide Rock, Arizona--the NATURAL water park. Amazing. New York was so-so, and I can't say I'm impressed with the Hoover Dam. Sure, they're both interesting places, but I'm more materialistic--water parks for the win.
I spend a lot of my time on the internet. This was especially true when I homeschooled, so a lot of my social experience stems from the web. The majority of my friends are people I've never met, though I do have some cool amigos I know personally, as well. Online I can be and act differently (of course you know this) so drastically different from my real self that the appeal is irresistible. Online I am calm, reliable and sometimes perverted. Offline I am always cautious, but I can also lose control of my temper without realizing it. People take me as more severe than I usually ever am.
So, my main interest is writing. I love to write, every day. I role play here on Gaia Online. You can see how I write, which is close to how I talk. Writing itself is something I do less often, but I do love to invent stories, plots, and epic twists that will probably never see the light of day. Some of these I incorporate into my next interest, video games.
Now, I play video games quite a bit. I recently counted my possessions, and game disks numbered over 160 slightly. This does not count the ones I have inevitably lost or destroyed throughout the passage of time. I believe my future lies within video games, and I hope to graduate from college and enter an occupation with a big company such as Bioware or Square Enix. Come to think of it, even a small (but good) company would be desirable. My all-time favorite game is Indigo Prophecy, and I am eagerly anticipating its sequel, Heavy Rain. These games are created by Quantic Dream and the game is called Fahrenheit in Europe. I have successfully made games using the GameMaker software and some demos using RPGMaker VX.
My favorite types of games are RPG, hands-down. I also like shooters and RTS. Perhaps the most unique (and fun) game I have ever played is Nancy Drew (which is a series by Her Interactive). The game is basically an interactive puzzle-type game, but way beyond fun. I hate repetitive games (Pokemon aside) so you know this has to be one great mystery game and not just an average puzzle game. I do hate repetitive stuff, like Button Mashers (Super Smash Brothers Brawl aside) and Dungeon Crawlers. I crave a good plot more than anything in a game, and certain games do deliver. A couple recent highlights are Assassin's Creed 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2: Drake's Fortune, and Modern Warfare 2. I love the Final Fantasy series, hands-down my favorite of all time. Especially 10. I anticipate 13 as well.
I would if I could: act. I know that I have the skills to be a good actor. I can portray a convincing character and have acted as the director of a play or two before. I would if I could: sing. My voice is terrible, period. I would if I could: manipulate art with the computer, like using GIMP or Photoshop. I just suck at this. I need to get better. I would if I could: dance. It looks like a lot of fun. I'm far too intimidated to even think about joining such an activity (if I could ever find a group to teach me to do it right). I would if I could: make music. Be it actually playing instruments or just using a software synthesizer, I would love to do this. Mainly for having my own unique sounds for the games I plan to make. I don't have enough time to learn to play instruments (my guitar skills suck so far!) and good music synthesizing software is both elusive and most probably expensive.
I'll take a break for now, and add more to this later.
