CURRENT AVATAR is from Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Mugen no Frontier EXCEED(wdf right?). Cleo Gretel. She's a boss character and a merchant. She's a deliciously brown chocolate/candy loving Lamia with a very cutesy voice. Definitely my favorite character introduced into EXCEED. Gaia taunts me, there was no suitable hat other than the black one. Shame...
Alright, the nitty-gritty. My preferred name is Zain, and you can consider me a critic of the Art Shop subforum. I judge harshly, giving any thread deemed bad for whatever reason a </3, anonymously, and any thread to please my eyes, a <3. If I really have a taking to your art, I will post and announce the <3, giving credit where credit is due.
I've been judging art for years, 3-5, be it at Comic-Con or Anime Expo, so yes, I really do know what I'm talking about.
Do not:
-Overprice. There's a pricing forum for a reason. Also, no one cares how long a piece takes, they care about results. Pricing art above a million implies heavy assurance that your work is in the higher tiers. Don't mess it up.
-Post random paint doodles. My patience for this garbage is near nonexistent. Do not waste peoples time with these pointless pieces and do not waste front page thread spots with your inferior presentations.
-Overdress your shop. Aka post formats. Customers really don't care about the outside prettiness. They care about samples. Hint? One post for everything, and yes it all makes it into one post. Shop Title, intro, rules, samples, prices, slots. Less scrolling, less wasted time, faster business.
-Say "name your own price" or ask for bribes with no minimum. This discourages large amounts of potential customers who may or may not know the current market. Post a minimum so customers have a foot in the door, because, don't you want business?
-Link to image hosting, aka bucket, tumblr, DA. Direct link to samples, or embed them. Don't send people on journies, your stuff may not even be good...
What I look for in art of the shops:
-I may not possess a degree in human biology, but I do understand proper anatomy and perspective, and I will deter my sight from your shop if I see that you do not.
-Production. Traditional, be it Copics, watercolor, ballpoint pen, CRAYOLA MARKERS, pencil etc... or CG with Sai, Photoshop, Manga Studio, oC, etc... I will be looking for amazing application of such, as I do not favor either kind.
-Style. Yeah... Anime/Manga style floods Gaia like no ones business, so I'm more strict around it. Finding good western and European styles is always pleasing, but it's a rare sight.
-Bargains. Not everyone liquidates, plays ZOMG!, wins a lottery, or is owed a favor. While I can agree with some relatively higher prices, IE: 6-7 digit figures, the conveniently cheap H(igh)Q(uality) can net more business and a higher rating among the customer base. Temp shops are 100% okay and all, but they should be left to quick "bargain bin" status, not "strike it rich" quick.
-Flexibility. Simple enough, minimally offer art towards Avatars and OC's, the most common of requests. Just accepting both of those is more than enough for a successful shop assuming quality and pricing is worth it. As for the other stuff: Mecha, Furry, Blood etc... it's simple yes and no.
I'll add more if I can think of anything, just know that I don't rate on a personal account, it's all business.
