The old knight pulled his cloak closer to himself, neatly bundling up over his lap. The scarf around his face still remained, though. Perhaps he was just cold...
Well thats what he'd have her think at least.

"Your accent gave that away."

He responded.

"I suppose mine does too.
These aren't foreign lands to me but I'm certainly a foreigner within them..."

The knight mused, his rose eyes looking off into the fire for a few moments, as if recalling distant memories.
Gauge turned his eyes to her.

"Ah, the horse lords of the plains? What tribe are you hailed from, girl?"

He asked.

"On a summers night, perhaps it would be strange."

Gauge looked up toward the skies, as if it on cue, the wind cut at them both, pulling his cape back as he fought to keep it over his shoulders.

"Tonight isn't exactly that. The snow might've finally stopped but it is far too cold to rest without a fire, and these bones are a bit too old to continue onto the next village...
A second fire seemed superfluous. How does that saying the people of this country are so fond of say go? 'You should share your blessings'. You've got a fire. I've got tea."

It was not lost on him that the nature of his situation was a bit odd and that he was more then a bit imposing, though perhaps the creature was feeling a bit social. Gauge might've appeared threatening with the sword on his back and the armor beneath his cloak, but he didn't act that way.
The old bird lifted a hand, as if asking for her to sit by the fire with him.

"If you'd prefer.
It's not for me to have, it was for you. As I've said, you built the fire. It would be wrong to stumble into someones camp and offer nothing."

He nodded humbly.
Sure, Gauge might've enjoyed the tea on his own, though that would have to be by himself, where he could safely shift and not cause a row, or possibly get killed. In his present form, he was quite aware having a drink wouldn't be possible, much as he missed that...

The necromancer pulls out a bundle from his coat pocket and tosses it to the mercenary. From his other coat pocket he pulled out an old, paper map and slid it across the table.
"If you trust your nose, these are herbs essential to any necromantic ritual. Most necromancers smell of them, and any person with a strange animal who smells like these herbs is suspect. The map is of the last known whereabouts of the splinter cell. In the folds you will also find a 2000 down payment for your cooperation."

Oh, no. He still wants to chase, but he wants more than just that. And maybe also hunt for longer than just every few years for a night or two. >____> He's not... that good. He's not cruel, though. His morals are just... not all there. Mostly because he was never human so human morals both baffle and amuse him.
But yeah, it's got a little Tam Lin to it (because I love that story or at least some element of it). However, my heroine is not really trying to help her suitor, she's just trying to get out of this craziness! If she could, she would probably throw him into an oubliette if there were any. Because he definitely would throw her into one, just to see if she could get out of it (as I said, he's not cruel. But he is an a*****e lmao).
Now if she develops feelings for this jerk... Well, then she's got problems. SHOULD SHE STAY OR SHOULD SHE GO NOW?

But seriously, it is helping with ideas.
Like I still want all the different versions of the Wild Hunt, but maybe instead of seasonal they happen by different years. And my unlucky heroine happen to get almost caught up in one with her very... persistent suitor when she was like a teen (because of the "in between" years lmao) and only escaped because she foolishly agreed to something NOT KNOWING WHAT, BUT JUST WANTED THE HELL OUT OF DODGE.
And now it's time for that favor to be collected since it's time for that Hunt to begin again. And whattya know, the heroine is back in the same area again. Coincidence, right?
Now the question is... Do I wanna pull a Sarah from the Labyrinth and have her kick his butt? Or do I want to have her be caught and then trying to escape her "engagement"? And is there a reason why her suitor decided to do this for her? Is he a victim to the Wild Hunt too, where he got pulled into it and the only way to escape it is with something only my heroine can do? And how much is he gonna torment/seduce her?

I like your idea before of her "Mother" going "Oh honey, this power is weighing so much on you and torturing you. Let me take it and release you from your pain"... Which is code for "I'll eat/absorb you so that my daughters are always close to me and hey, bonus! I get their powers". Like the Night Hag is still terrible and power-hungry, but also got a twisted kind of love for her "daughters" too. Kinda like Flemeth from Dragon Age, maybe? And maybe a little Mother Gothel from Tangled too? Like once her daughters find her, she emotionally and verbally abuses them in a sly way until their self-confidence is at their lowest and that's when she goes "Let me take care of you, my child. You can't handle your power like this. And the world is awful so don't leave, stay with me and I'll make it all better".
YES, I'M ADDING MORE TERRIBLE THINGS TO HELP YOU.

FFFFFFFFF. HE'S A LITTLE s**t IS WHAT HE IS. AND IT'S NOT JUST TYLER, BUT A SCRUFFY TYLER LIKE FROM THAT AWFUL SHOW "TEEN WOLF" (love the characters, but HAAAAAAAATE the show and its poor plot).
He usually struts into my dreams when I'm already involved in a weird plot AND I KNOW IT'S HIM. Like before I would go along with the dream, but the moment he shows up I'm like NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE I'M WALKING OUT. AND HE JUST FOLLOWS ME. AND THEN HE CHANGES THE DREAM, NOT ME, BUT HIM. HE CHANGES MY DREAM INTO A LABYRINTH OR SOMETIMES A BUILDING AND I HAVE TO ESCAPE IT IF I WANT HIM TO LEAVE ME ALONE. BUT THE LITTLE FRACKER CHEATS.
LIKE IT'S LIKE JARETH FROM THE LABYRINTH, BUT WAAAAAAAAAY MORE R-RATED. HE SEDUCES. THE GODDAMN FAIR FOLK FRACKER SEDUCES. LIKE WHEN I'M CLOSE TO GETTING TO AN EXIT, HE POPS UP AND WE START A BANTER AND THEN! HE SWOOPS IN AND FFFFFFFFFFFF. LISTEN, I HAVE HAD SOME GREAT AND AMAZING KISSES BEFORE, BUT HE BLOWS THEM OUT OF THE WATER. AND IT MAKES ME SO MAD.
I AIN'T DOING THE PERSEPHONE THING OR THE GOBLIN MARKET OR WHATEVER, AND GETTING MY a** SCREWED OVER FROM BEING KISSED OUT OF MY GODDAMN DREAM-MIND. I AM NOT FALLING FOR THIS LITTLE STUNT AND DO SOMETHING STUPID LIKE AGREEING TO WHAT HE WANTS. LIKE HELL NO. JUST BECAUSE HE FOUND ME WHILE I WAS A WEE THING IN GERMANY, THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT CUTE. MAYBE HE HELPED ME OR MAYBE NOT, I STILL AIN'T GETTING STOLEN.

... But at least I'm getting plot ideas from this, EVEN THOUGH I AM STILL PISSED ABOUT MY DREAMS.
