Basically, it's so that you can improve your stats compared to other people's. Take mine. My stats are suitable to a mage, though they'll be getting a bit of change soon enough...But anyway. You adapt your stats to how you wish to fight. Speed, strength, defense, etc.

It's actually simpler than it looks, I can assure you. Think of it as a turn-based style, for the actual RPing part, and the upgrades and stuff are easy to understand if you peel the jargon off.
