You're gonna have to read about 50 comics in order to enjoy the whole story, and read them in order, I didn't, I wish I did.

You can download them online I believe, I found them in the library.

Oh, because it reminded me of a scene where there was a man who could never die, because he refused to die. So every century, him and dream would meet up at a pub, or coffee shop and talk. They weren't friends, but in a way they were. Since Dream is one of the seven immortal beings who had a specific job.
Destiny, Dream, Destruction, Death, Despair, Desire, and Delirium, once known as delight.

It's an amazing comic book series, it's called Vertigo: The Sandman or something.
