Welp. I hope you have a large resolution. If not... Sorry.

Vardøger, also known as vardyvle or vardyger, is a spirit predecessor in Scandinavian folklore.

Stories typically include instances that are nearly déjà vu in substance, but in reverse, where a spirit with the subject's footsteps, voice, scent, or appearance and overall demeanor precedes them in a location or activity, resulting in witnesses believing they've seen or heard the actual person before the person physically arrives.

This bears a subtle difference from a doppelgänger, with a less sinister connotation. It has been likened to being a phantom double, or form of bilocation. In Finnish folklore, the concept is known as etiäinen.

About me IRL

[Last updated 23 April 2016]

I'm Vardøger or Var for short.
I was born in October 1987 and have done much with my life. I've traveled to 17+ countries, worked as a cashier, live-in nanny, graphic designer, (video) production assistant, stablehand, avionics tech, and fire/flood/hazmat first responder. I've illustrated 2 children's books and written a novel of my own.

I've lived in Japan, Georgia (USA), New York, Florida, Hawaii and on a US Navy ship (LHD). I have an Associates degree (2008) in digital video production and a bachelors in general business administration (2016).

I've been editing fan-made music videos since 2002, costuming/cosplaying since 2001, and making simple websites since 2005. The most notable sites I've created are The Gaia Comic Website, GCD Points, and most recently (which is the only one in this list that is still active).

I'm extremely thankful and blessed to have such a varied life experience, and only hope to continue to experience all that the world has to offer.

Below is a photo of me from September 2015

My History on Gaia

[Last updated 23 April 2016]

I joined Gaia in January 2004 as Ziko and changed my name to [Q] that October. Throughout the years, I became a well-known regular of Barton Town, Computers & Technology, Gaia Community Discussion, and Profile Discussion. I also gained some notoriety in the GGN guilds with my Literate RP Guild The Crimson Ibis and my participation in the Gaia Community Sniper Game Guild, Captains Guild, and SCAS.

Somewhere between 2006 and 2008 the [Q] username began breaking Gaia, making it unuseable (read more about that here). I created a new account named Bornes, and by that time was really only posting in Lifestyle Discussion (now called Life Discussion) and sometimes the GCD and SCAS.

I joined the US Navy in 2009, where my Gaia (and general online) activity plummeted until 2012. I quit all the guilds and only posted in LD, specifically Transtastic (a trans support thread). At some point, I was a Forum Assistant under a side account named Greysond.

Late 2012 (around november) to 2014 I quit Gaia due to the Flynnflation and only came back some time in 2015 due to boredom. I still mostly only post in the LD.

In April of 2016, I changed my name from Bornes to Vardoger and changed a different, older mule account to Bornes to save the username in case I ever wanted it back.

Since 2004, I had a mostly permanent avatar. The avatar was red/black themed and always looked like my OC, Q (AKA Bornes). In 2016 I finally got tired of that and wanted to branch out, try different avatars and no longer feel like I was tied down to the name and theme.

Currently on Gaia

[Last updated 21 June 2016]

I pretty much only post in LD and LI these days. I generally talk about trans issues and mental illness, as I have experience with both.

Previously known as: [Q], Bornes
I used to be known as [Q]. Due to many problems (you can read about it by clicking the [Q] avatar) I changed accounts to Bornes.
Then, in 2016, I wanted to get away from being personally associated with the Q/Bornes character, so I changed my name again.

Hey, hope you were able to finish up that excruciating paper without going through too much trouble. It's topics like that where I wish I could more easily understand finance and economics, since I feel like I only know enough now to go, "Hm, that doesn't sound right, and I feel like it's something I ought to have a reasoned adult opinion over."

Yeah, the program is kind of like if you put anthropology, psychology, sociology, and every other social science into one. Childcare and youth development is definitely the most popular facet, and I liked that you could also choose to focus on the relationship between the individual and their career/employer, since it sounded very relevant to someone working in Human Resources. If nothing else, maybe it'd serve me well in doing something like being a CASA volunteer later in life.

I don't actually have my character info posted anywhere online yet, just a bunch of random text files either on my computer or tucked away somewhere in my desk. I have a charahub account that I've always meant to consolidate information onto, but they always seem to go down whenever I have the time to try. I've really wanted to play around with a character inspired by the Shadowrun "rigger" type, but I have zero idea where to go with that one. Calista is probably the one I'd choose based on comfort level playing around with her, though. She kind of fits into whatever setting and is a horrible woman, but she's by far the most developed. I'll probably start getting the information I have on her posted up today, as well as a couple other characters. As far as story or setting goes, I have a soft spot for dystopian futures and some science fiction (sometimes with fantasy elements). I don't mind adult themes, and I figure if something becomes an uncomfortable topic it's OK to step back to talk about it OOC. I can't think of anything that would offend me.

My major is Human Development & Family Studies. It's something I had an interest in and figured would be easy enough to get through to just finally have my Bachelor's of Science. I made the mistake of doing both a statistics and bioethics course at the same time, though. The way ASU has their online courses structured is rather than doing four courses as full-time for a whole semester, they split up the semester into "A" and "B" terms where you take two courses at an accelerated pace per term. I don't think I like it now that I've experienced a couple of semesters, though. I might back off to part-time for the Fall semester. Are you taking your courses online or on campus? Accounting or something business-related, right?

I am interested in RP, actually. It has been forever since I've done anything like it, though. Closest I've gotten in the last couple years is a few rounds of tabletop stuff. I have a couple of characters from long ago that I occasionally add to their storyline, but I just haven't RP'ed with 'em since I was younger. Where does one start an RP nowadays?

And penpals would be cool! Simple letters or just stream of consciousness rambling on notebook paper is totally fine with me. I kinda collect stationery, and it's a way for me to use it up while also connecting with other people. It's a good excuse for me to do other things I'd like to do as well, like origami or doodling or other minor crafty stuff. For some reason I never do those things just for me, but when it's for someone else I feel more inspired to take the time to do them.
