About
I'm Uathach (obviously not my real name) and I've been lurking around Gaia since... oh, September 2003? I went through a few usernames, a few leaves of absence, but I'm finally back, and using this account. I'm currently a sophomore in college, studying economics, math, and political science. Feel free to chat me up on any of those topics!I'm also an avid fan of anime and manga. I'm usually pretty up to date with manga titles too, since I work in a bookstore. Clamp and Ai Yazawa are easily my favourite manga-ka though. I read other genres pretty frequently too. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy fan, and I love classic literature. Russian lit especially.
I'm rather egotistical (because, face it, I AM SMARTER THAN YOU!) and opinionated. I do like to debate though, and am always open to hearing another opinion.
When I have time, I'll occasionally RP. So if you need another player, hit me up.
My username is derived from Scotch/Irish mythology:
In Irish mythology, Uathach was Scáthach's daughter. According to a legend, Cuchulainn, who had recently arrived at Scáthach's fortress-home to be her pupil, had a quarrel with Cochar Crufe, Uathach's lover, because Cuchulainn accidentally broke one of Uathach's fingers. Having been challenged to single combat by Cochar Crufe, Cuchulainn killed him during the fight. Eventually, Uathach became Cuchulainn's lover.
In Scottish mythology, Uathach had spurned the advances of Cochar Croibhe, the same character as Cochar Crufe. When she first saw Cúchullain, she instantly fell in love with him, and he with her. He was so taken by her beauty, that he forgot his strength and broke her hand. Seeing this, Cochar Croibhe challenged Cúchullain to the death, despite Uathach's protests. When Cúchullain won the duel, he became Uathach's lover.
At least, that's how Wikipedia explains her.
