More of a gut feeling, I guess.

It's just that at this point, there is no way to PROVE string theory right OR wrong. The mathematics work fine, but there's no way to test it.

Like saying "We were all created last Tuesday with our memories intact." There's no way to prove anything about that statement.

I'll just have to wait. There's some theory that with a large enough particle collider there might be some observable effects of string theory. I really like the basic idea of string theory, so I'm kinda hoping it works. But I'm not very confident with it at the moment.

Why are you reasonably sure string theory is wrong? Is that just a gut feeling, or do you have conclusive evidence to disprove it?
