Some some simple thoughts, over what-not. I wouldn't call it something worthy of reading, or anything. It might sound either too hypocritical, "emo", or plain out stupid to most that read it. (Not really for sure, but more than likely...)

I don't mind helping you. I don't know why people should treat you indifferently, anyways. Warmth is good. (:
If you were overjoyed by Extended Discussion, then don't leave there. I understand posting and such for the sake of entertainment, but if you want some intelligence, staying there is the ticket. The Extended Discussion (ED), the Gaia Community Discussion (GCD, though most of them are elitists), and very few in Barton Town hold some intelligence other than the Extended Discussion, so if you look anywhere else, those are the places to look.
It seems that over the years, as more and more people joined, it became a rarity to find a person of real intelligence that wasn't hiding out in a guild or the ED. People will probably deny this, but there are a lot of idiots on Gaia - and if you were to say that to anyone - including myself - they would agree with you but assure you that they weren't one of those people. Whether that's a kiss-a** maneuver, denial, or truth is beyond me.
You earn gold on this website by doing basically anything. Playing games, posting, going through the marketplace, surfing the site, etc. They make it very easy to make gold nowadays. You'll be likely to find some butthurt 'oldbies' in the GCD someday that remember the 'old days' and wish it wasn't so easy for the newer people to get gold. They constantly complain that all they got when they started was one article of clothing and they had to earn everything else (granted, a Halo was like, 10k back then) - and that the newer people get a full set of clothes and plenty of missions to do to get more gold than they would have gotten in say, a week. It's easier but the economy of Gaia is shitty, so everything's sort of expensive anyways.
To make gold, the most common and effective ways I've seen are to spam the Chatterbox (which I hate doing; it gets boring), to play the Marketplace effectively by buying for less and selling for more (someday I'll learn that myself; unfortunately I can't help you there), and playing around with the aquariums. You make one, customize it as you can, place it in your signature, then go to the Aquarium subforum (part of the GCD, if I remember correctly) and post around there, looking around the aquariums in people's signatures until you find one that says 'Booty Grab.' You click it, and you get to play a game where you collect gold that can range from 100 - 1500 or more, depending upon how much crap is in their aquarium, how good your connection is, and how good you are at the game.
Those are the most effective I've seen, anyways. Some people make quest threads or hang around charities. There's plenty of ways to make gold and run rampant around the marketplace or shops looking for ways to snazz your avatar. As for me, I don't do any of that, so collecting gold is a slow process for me. Most of the crap I wear I collect over time. I'm not a wealthy member, even if people from 2004 tend to be the ones with the most expensive things (and the biggest egos).
...I was almost tempted to ask her if she thought she was better than everyone because she and her boyfriend were in the military, but I refrained because I figured that would make me as low as her.
It would be much better to be complimented than insulted by you. I'm sure that if we got into a heated argument, I would probably lose. At least I would know when to quit.
I could help you get used to Gaia if you want. I've been around off and on and on multiple accounts since November 2004. ): I could probably help.
Oh, and tektek.org would be very useful for any profile themes.
I'm feeling a bit sick and fatigued, but I brought that upon myself.
I don't even remember what my profile looks like. o_o; Thanks for complimenting it, at least.
