Eleanor continued to stare at the fire, most of the guests just ignoring her. She wouldn't be the best hostess at the moment anyway, too engrossed with her thoughts to concentrate on others. She just had to grin and bear it for the evening and try to find someone she remotely liked before her chance to choose a husband would be taken from her. Just as she was about to stand and mingle, a young man sat down next to her. She looked out of the corner of her eye at him and realized it was the young man whose eyes had connected with hers when he arrived late for the party! He wasn't bad to look at, pretty handsome from the point of view she currently had without outright staring at him. *Well, if I have to mingle, I might as well try things out with this handsome man first before mingling with others,* she thought to herself. She glanced over to Lady Bradshawe who smiled softly and nodded for her to try with this young man. Clearing her throat, she turned a little towards him and smiled softly. "Hello there. Having any fun yet tonight?"

That's fine by me, I'm easy to make compromises with... As long as I don't lose my roleplay partners crying But I understand when people outgrow roleplay or just don't feel like doing it anymore.

User Image Eleanor was pushed through the crowd by her governess until they both caught up to her father. She sighed quietly as her father took her arm and gently pulled her aside, seeing Lady Bradshawe disappear to give them time alone. *Oh great, I'm alone with Father... I wonder what this is about?* She thought to herself before turning her attention back to her father.

"Eleanor," Lawrence quietly spoke to her away from the crowd. "Please at least try to find someone tonight. I have been as patient as I can with you but that patience is starting to wear thin. I promised your mother that I would let you choose your husband. But you are a grown woman now and I can't wait anymore. This is your last chance tonight. If you cannot find a suitor out of the many in the crowd tonight, I will choose for you. Do you understand, young lady?" He watched his daughter with her wide-eyed expression nod her head before curtsying. "Good. Now, I am going to get the family jewels to display to help 'sweeten the deal' as the poor like to say." Nodding his head, he ducked out around the corner and left her to her thoughts.

Eleanor leaned back against the wall, looking shocked and crestfallen. She tried to keep her emotions in check and found that she couldn't catch her breath. This whole time it was her choice? Her father never explained that to her in the first place or else she would have made a decision sooner. Slowly calming down, she slipped back around the corner to the masses trying to keep a straight face. Finding one of the few fireplaces in the main room being used for the ball, she sat down and tried to collect her thoughts while Lady Bradshawe stood to the side in case she was needed.

User Image Just another boring ball with another boring list of guests... She kept a smile to her features as she was introduced to guests and to potential suitors. She smiled to her father and glanced back at her governess once in a while pleadingly whenever she could. She didn't want to be here! All she wanted to do was just lay in her room and either read or get some embroidery done while enjoying the cool night air.

Lady Bradshawe laughed softly and shook her head to her mistress. She knew that her mistress hated parties such as this, but the young woman was already 19! She needed to find someone before she grew old and became an old maid... Like she was. She watched as her mistress tried to sneak off upstairs once the meet and greet part of the party was over with, smiling as she walked over and stopped Eleanor. "Milady, your father needs you here at this party. You can't run off..."

"Lady Bradshawe, I don't want to be here, all right? I met everyone here and I... I don't see anyone here that sparks my interest in the least. Everyone is just after my father's money and not the least bit interested in me and who I am." Eleanor looked around, trying to stay calm. "I know I need to find a husband, get married and start a family. But, can't there at least be some love in there somewhere?" She looked pleadingly to her governess before she was turned around by her and gently pushed her towards the dining hall for food and drinks. She glanced at a latecomer, a young man in a dark grey shirt. It sparked her interest in the moment that she looked to him, but as soon as Lady Bradshawe continued to gently push her, her interest in the young man was gone for the time being.
