Your jazz professor sounds chill and amazing. cool I think it's easy for me to get in my head about performances, I guess since my instrument is literally a part of me, so it gets a little personal when criticism happens. Taking guitar lessons has really helped me get out of my head and start grooving and being present with the people around me. When you think of it as engaging and relating to others, it becomes so liberating.

whee Wow, that's incredible. I'm sure you'll have a great time, especially with your Salsa group!! I remember when my choir toured in Brazil, going out every night and dancing to the live samba music was one of my favorite memories to this day. It really is a feedback loop of energy! Normally I'm exhausted after going out around people, but the music and dancing made all the difference.
crying heart My heart got swole reading about your goals. Honestly, my life would be completely different without my music teachers. My high school choir teacher showed up to all my auditions, walked me through all the little rules and etiquette, and I was able to get a scholarship to pay for school. Otherwise, I wasn't really sure if college was going to be a thing. I think it even goes further than that, I had an elementary teacher that really brought me out of my shell and encouraged me to keep singing. Being a teacher is an amazing vocation. You can bring a lot of joy, inspiration, and freedom to peoples' lives in many aspects. Honestly though, no matter the skill level, I'm sure you'll be able to reach your students. I'm seeing that I'm still working on a ton of different skills, and I'm definitely a more casual musician now. lol
Thanks, it was very fun! I was a mezzo, so I was basically in drag for all my roles and got to kiss a ton of sopranos rofl That definitely makes sense, and I'm glad the Salsa group brought you back to that sweet spot for performance! I definitely miss the harp, but I'm pretty happy to have a more portable, lower maintenance instrument to play around with. Plus my guitar teacher is just the best. He did a lot of big band stuff, wrote a ton of arrangements back in his heyday, and it's so fun to hear his stories touring on the road!
My journey is a bit up and down sweatdrop I was a basic choir kid all my life, got an opera scholarship, sang a couple big roles in college as well as traveled abroad with my choir, but I started burning out really quickly when it came time to audition for graduate programs or young artist programs. I have friends that can't get enough of opera, but I'm definitely more satisfied singing very small gigs at churches and learning different instruments as a hobby. I play piano, harp, and guitar. I had a piano trio at one point, which I was very proud of and they are still playing even though I quit after I graduated. Unfortunately I had a lot of medical bills, so I sold my harp in 2020. Right now I am just enjoying the guitar, which I'm finally getting around to learning. 3nodding
