Peter winced as she placed the peroxide-soaked gauze on his chest. "Ow! I'm okay, Mary Jane, it was just Scorpion. I could fight him in my sleep. He just..." Peter trailed off, looking defeated, "He blindsided me after he put someone else in danger. Slashed open a car, pulled some little girl out and had his tail to her throat. I acted as quick as I could, hit him in the face, and got the girl away from him, but he swiped me good." He felt the padding on his chest, a good patch job. "Hey, you've gotten really good at this. Guess I make a good practice dummy, huh?" MJ's head rest upon him, her hairs tickling him a bit. "I know. Really, I do. But I have to do it. It's that whole power and responsibility thing. But hey," he said as he leaned over his ex-girlfriend's face, "Once I start ESU, I'm going to stop. Take off the whole hero thing for a while. I mean, you're right, there are others everywhere now. I'm sure Stark or the Fantastic Four are more than capable to take down the Goblin, or the Octopus. Heck, even you could take down the Shocker," he teased.
Peter had just finished another rousing adventure as his alter ego, the Amazing Spider-Man. He'd battled the villainous Scorpion on his way back from the city, which the Bugle would no doubt say little more about than "Web-slinging Menace Causes Brooklyn Bridge Backup for Hours". Scorpion wasn't too difficult a villain these days, but the deranged man was still powerful. Peter's suit had been torn a bit, revealing some of his abs underneath.
He was changing out of his uniform when he heard Mary Jane's voice as she entered his house. She knew that Peter was Spidey, had for a year now, but he still made it a point to hide his costume. "MJ! Umm, one sec," Peter yelled through his closed door. He rummaged through his closet and dresser to find a shirt, but they were all either in the hamper or in the washer. Making the best out of the situation, he grabbed the blanket from his bed and threw it over himself. MJ entered, and Peter flung himself in his computer chair as if he'd been there the whole time. "Hey, you! I'm good. You?" Peter really hoped MJ wouldn't see the scar over his chest through the blanket.
Just a young girl still trying to find her way in this world
