Last year, my French teacher took us on a field trip. We went to the French Quarter. She found some French-speaking people, and we went around talking to them for clues (we were on a scavenger hunt). At the end, we had some good food. And, on a few occasions, when walking around the French Quarter, I've just heard people speaking French. It's not incredibly common for me to hear it, but I have heard it. I love it so much. biggrin
And what would be better than French? biggrin
Oh, I'd love to learn Dutch. My French teacher is from Belgium, but she's from the French-speaking part of it. I've told myself if I can't learn German, I should learn Dutch. Whichever comes first. x'D
For Christmas, I actually asked for three dictionaries. A French-English dictionary, a Spanish-English dictionary, and this dictionary:
Louisiana French
I'm trying to find a good publisher for the Spanish-English and French-English ones, though. I wanna get them from the same publisher, 'cause I'm OCD like that.
Hmmm... I wonder why I'm not growing up to be a linguist. x'D
I'm taking so many language classes in school, everyone is just like O_O. I can't decide whether they're harder or easier than my other classes. I mean, for my other classes, all I have to do is study ('cept for math... I treat math like a foreign language). But then I forget a lot of the information, and never use it again. But with languages, since I'm using all of the rules every day, I never forget...
And I am so excited. My school is participating in a French convention thing. One of the things that can be done there is win a scholarship to study French in Belgium, Nova Scotia, Quebec, etc, Unfortunately, you have to be a junior or senior to win that... oh well. I can do other things, there. Lol, I'm the only French III student that's a sophomore. Just reminds me that I'm the youngest. A nd I skipped a grade, so I should be in ninth grade. ;-;
Next year, I hope to finish up my French studies, hopefully taking French IV and AP French.
And I am only beginning my Spanish-speaking life. I bet French will really help with Spanish.
I love languages. X3
The AP Psychology teacher at my school things I have this:
Synesthesia
The lucky thing is though, the person that will be teaching me Spanish I taught me French II. And she said she knows Latin pretty well, so... she can clear up anything for me. For some reason, a lot of the teachers in my school are multilingual. The Cuban Pre-Calculus/Calculus teacher talks to me in French, teaches in English, and has Spanish as a first language. My science teacher last year/homeroom teacher this years grew up speaking Cajun French, and her main job at the school is to teach Spanish. My French teacher grew up in Belgium and taught French in Vietnam... in fact, she sang happy birthday to me in Vietnamese and French. My friend sang it to me in Spanish. And, like I said, there is that teacher that used to teach me French and will be teaching me Spanish.
Also (as weird as this sounds), I see languages as different colors when spoken. Different dialects are different shades. For example, UK English is pale yellow, American English (well, the variety I hear a lot) is a darker yellow. Russian is dark blue. And music is purple, depending on the instrument played.
I actually start Spanish next semester... for the longest time, everyone's been telling my I'm going to get my French and my Spanish mixed up...
Something I've been meaning to ask you, if I've taken three French courses, and start on Spanish, will I get them mixed up a lot? I know it varies from person to person, but... just as a generalization.
How would you say that in Latin?
