About

Sam Tyler is a 'by-the-book' 21st century detective, intent on proper procedure and paperwork. But after a car accident, he finds himself in the boozy, slightly brutal world of 70s police work, where a good kicking is common place and forensics are as fanciful as jet-packs and hover-cars.

Sam has to adapt to his new surroundings and colleagues. His new boss, Gene Hunt, makes The Sweeny look like Postman Pat, and his maverick, often violent methods don't sit well with Sam. Likewise, Gene can't understand Sam's need to actually listen to a suspect before hurling him headlong into a cell. These two develop a love/hate relationship, though a grudging respect develops as they both realise they're bloody good coppers.

Sam's baffling methodology also rankles with the rest of his team, who see their fists as the quickest route to a successful investigation and grow suspicious of his strange new ways.

So is Sam really in the 1970s, is he in a coma or is he simply bonkers? That's a mystery for you to ponder.
