That's another thing that's pretty common with prescription medications. Over the counter stuff pretty much gets to be over-the-counter instead of prescription because the likelihood of the person taking it to develop physical dependency on it is low. {Although, caffeine causes physical dependency and that can be very easily bought.} A lot of prescription meds alter the body chemistry in some way or take the place of a chemical the body produces naturally. In the case of the latter, the body stops producing that chemical because it recognizes that there is already something like it in your system. At that point, if you are to suddenly stop taking it, the body won't be producing its natural replacement because it had grown accustomed to not producing it and it takes a while for it to return to normal levels once more when it finally does start producing it. In the meantime, you could experience all sorts of complications while your body gradually becomes aware that it needs to start doing its job again.

I didn't think you were trying to "push" anything... just making conversation. Meds can alter the effect alcohol have on you and/or how you behave while "sober". The meds themselves make the state of being sober questionable depending on what it is that you're taking. There are many medications that specifically state not to take with alcohol or not to have more than a certain amount of alcohol per day while taking.

Well, personally I never found alcohol consumption that particularly fun since I neither cared for the taste or the way it made me feel. I also have this thing about wanting to have total awareness and control of my own actions, which is something alcohol can hinder.
