Memorizing names/dates/locations is what kills the fun of History for me. My world civ class was like that, and I did significantly worse in that class than the US History class. I'm thinking that as a major, history is going to consist of a LOT of essays and thesis papers. I'm guessing film majors don't have that issue, but I could be wrong.
You should get that German Shepard a little Kaiser helmet for Halloween ;p
From what I remember from either an english or german class, English is a mish-mash of latin, germatic languages, and pretty much whatever immigrants brought with them. Must be tough as hell for ESL students to learn.
I'm just moving on up from a community college, the history classes I've taken have focused on colonial American and world civ (basic requirement for the civ, and I figured if I wanted a good base knoledge in US History I should start from the beginning.) Most of the classes I've taken were psych. classes, I'm hoping to go into the History major with the intent on putting a psychological spin on things. (Why people did stuff as opposed to what they did.) That, and I love hearing about weird stories about famous folks and their personal quirks. I'm also hoping to minor in the German language, three years of it in high school simply wasn't enough for me. Plus, it's easy as hell to pick up...pretty much the same alphabet and all the words are spelled exactly as they're spoken.
Drop A Line . . .

But on this account. It was my mule and then it became my main.
