l never tried Open Canvas, but I have used Paint Tool Sai and Corel Painter. l've been looking for a program with a more painty natural feel..but it seems l can't get myself to adapt to anything other than photoshop. Ah well. They say its about the artist, not their tools.
Tips for hair..there's just general things, like draw and color it in chunks, cause when you see hair, you don't actually see each individual strand. l don't know exactly what to say cause l haven't seen your art. Feel free to pm me, l'd love to see. l could show you some of mine too if you like. ^__^
Photoshop is great once you get the hang of it. Don't get overwhelmed by all the options, you'll learn them with time. ^__^ lf you have questions about it l can do my best to help. Photoshop is the only imaging program l can use somewhat well. l've tried others but l'm just too used to Photoshop. =/
