well actually I've done a bit of book research on the subject, and the Mayan prophecy specifically state that something will happen in 2012, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the end of the world- in fact, the prophecy states a massive shift in thinking and reason among humans, and that we should not fear it but embrace the change and enlightenment. people just took "end of the calendar" and "prophecy" and took it to mean "end of the world". their calendar was more than just a stone piece, they considered all forms of time and documentation to be in direct relationship with the way the world operated in its entirety, which is why it was based off the stars.

i don't know if all that's true or not, but it helps to know your facts and it's an interesting culture nonetheless razz
