Nicknamed the Ghost Princess, Perona (ぺローナ, Perona?) Perona is a girl dressed in a style inspired by Gothic Lolita and a commander in the army of Gecko Moria on his island-ship of Thriller Bark. She is also the commander of Perona Wonder Garden, where an army of animal zombies live and protect her. She looted the Thousand Sunny with some zombies and later took on guard duty while Absalom was away attempting to marry Nami. She cannot stand anything that she feels is not cute, such as insects. Perona's dream is to have her own country made up of cute zombie animals with her as their leader. Like many other characters in One Piece, Perona has a unique laugh, which oshorohorohoro, which contains the word horo, meaning hallow. (It is also the name of her devil fruit).
Perona had no knowledge of Brook nor about the incident that occurred five years ago when he first appeared because she slept through the entire incident, scolding Kumasy when he tried to alert her.
Perona has eaten the Horo Horo no mi (Ghost Ghost fruit) which allows her to create several ghostly apparitions. The ghosts can pass through someone to cause them to go into a sort of induced depression, although Usopp was completely unaffected due to his natural pessimism. Other versions of these ghosts can be used as extremely powerful bombs and vary in size. Aside from being able to create ghosts, Perona herself is also able to use ghostly powers such as flight, intangibility, and size manipulation which she used to terrify Usopp. Apparently in her ghostly form Perona is unable to manipulate tangible objects. This is exemplified after Perona had passed her arms into Usopp's chest and threatened to crush his heart, and then immediately after admitting that she is unable to do things like that. In order to use her ghostly powers, however, Perona must leave her physical body leaving it vulnerable to attack, a fact figured out by Usopp, who was able to trick her and glue her to her bed as her spirit rejoined her body. He then proceeded to quickly scare her into unconsciousness using rubber roaches and an inflatable "ten ton" hammer.
She was recently awoken by her servants. When she realized that Oz was going on a rampage to destroy the Strawhats, she immediately decided to escape the island on the Thousand Sunny and ordered her animals to get some treasure and food. However her escape plan is interrupted with the sudden arrival of Bartholomew Kuma of the Shichibukai on the ship, asking for Moria. When Perona responded that she was no longer Moria's underling and that she was about to leave the island, Bartholomew responded by asking her where she would go on a vacation. After some initial confusion Perona replied that she would want to go to a "humid, ancient castle, full of creepiness" (a perfect description of Thriller Bark), but seems angry at him for 'distracting and humiliating' her. When she attempts to fight back against him, Bartholomew makes her disappear by touching Perona with his bare hand. Her current status is unknown.
