Maybe it's different up here in Ontario, but generally if patients are prone to fainting we have them lay down to draw their blood (if possible) or just keep a really close eye on them.
We actually have special chairs just for that procedure for if people do faint, so they don't injure themselves by falling or anything.
I had a fear of needles for a loooong time, back in grade 7 I was getting the HPV vaccine and this nurse just.. friggin' stabbed me in the arm with the needle. I was sitting there crying and she told me to suck it up emotion_donotwant
I guess it's different now because I work with them so much
