- Name: Lyrin (Lii-rin)
Little is known of Lyrin prior to her employment at the Milk Bar Latte. Originally hired as a waitress, she gradually added the roles of chef and medic. The former was a natural shift, the latter an unconventional necessity for the many of the bar's regulars whom loved to spar in the establishment's spacious courtyard, which served as the perfect practice grounds and arena.
It was in her capacity as medic that she grew close to the Rommyu clan, which at the time consisted only of Shiyojin, a Reploid from the future, and Linkie, a Lunaraeon, or moon-elf. Shiyojin, who was especially-fond of sparring, was challenged at least once a week. Despite the technological superiority of both his weaponry and his body, there were wounds to his artificial biological shell that needed time and specialized care to heal. She also befriended (and frequently-bandaged) Jeiku, a shy wandering swordsman. An unusual bond developed between the two; a bond which remained after both characters were adopted into the Rommyu clan (along with a third character named Aeris who did not frequent the MBL). Of all her brothers, it was Jeiku whom Lyrin considered most close, given their age proximity. The pair would eventually be co-managers of the bar until Lyrin's disappearance.
The irony of her association with these characters was that Lyrin herself was a pacifist. Completely lacking in strength both physical and metaphysical, Lyrin did not participate in such skirmishes. It wasn't as simple as "she just hadn't learnt" or "she needed practice". Effective warriors have a knack for combat, a sense of how to move, how to attack and parry and thrust. For some unknown reason, Lyrin lacked the essential aggression needed for both offense and defense. Her only "special ability" was to Negate -- she could absorb and deflect any psychic or magic-based attack. Yet against physical force, she was defenseless.
It was around this time that a small black feline began to accompany Lyrin. Silent and polite, the cat merely watched the bar patrons with pale golden eyes from his perch on Lyrin's shoulder. "Nychthemeron seems a likely name for you, cat", mused Lyrin, and with that name came a voice -- a wry and often-condescending intelligence. In counterpoint to Lyrin's soothing nature, Nychthemeron was cynical, scathing and unapologetic. In some ways he was almost an evil twin, perceiving what his human either did not grasp or chose not to, and voicing things she would never dare to. For all his biting words, Lyrin's trust in him never wavered. The two made an affectionate, if unlikely duo.
Nychthemeron never did fully approve of Wild, an unpolished sharpshooter, adventurer, and womanizer. Perhaps it was this unruly charm that so captured Lyrin's heart. The two were to be wed when it was revealed that Wild had continued his philandering ways throughout their relationship. Shattered and disillusioned, Lyrin slowly began to withdraw from the bar, appearing less and less before vanishing three years after she had appeared.
