About
Name: Kurapika of the Kurta Clan(Also called Curapict, Kurapica Kuruta, Kurapika Kurata, and "Chain Dude")
Age: 17.
Birthday: April 4th.
Blood Type: AB
Eye Color: In the manga: Brown. In the original anime: Greenish Blue. In the 2011 anime: Brown (thanks Naruko uzumaki!)
Born in Lukso Province to the Kurta Clan. All Clanmembers possess a pair of blue eyes that turn red when they are agitated or angry. The Phantom Troupe massacred the Clan for those eyes, which are highly coveted by flesh collectors. Kurapika is the last surviving Clan Member. He is a blacklist hunter, meaning he seeks revenge.
Kurapika is generally the calmest and most intelligent of the original four who take the hunter exam in the first plot arc. He is also extremely chivalrous and serious, though around Leorio he becomes quite the joker (he and Leorio have a comical love-hate relationship). He gets along very well with the calm and kindhearted Melody, a fellow bodyguard. He does not support unnecessary killing, as is seen in the Majority Rules section of the Hunter exam when he refuses to kill Majitani.
When the Troupe is mentioned, his personality changes drastically. He becomes uncharacteristically violent and reckless. This violence goes against his true nature, and creates a serious internal conflict. Hunting the Spiders is arguably making him physically and mentally sick.
Though he does not possess the most raw energy, his nen is the best trained. He attacks with five nen chains on his right hand. He is a conjurer, which means he can materialize objects with his mind, except when his eyes turn red. Then he enters a state called "Emperor Time," and becomes a specialist, with the ability to utilize all forms of nen 100%. Such power comes at great cost however. He promised that he could not use his strongest attack--chain jail--on anyone outside of the Phantom Troupe. If he does so, the Judgement Chain embedded in his chest will crush his heart and kill him.
Nen Abilities :

Thumb: "Holy Chain" (lit. "Healing Thumb") Heals wounds
Index Finger: Unknown
Middle Finger: "Chain Jail" (lit "The Restraining Middle Finger"). Imposes zetsu on opponent (shuts off their nen). Can only be used on members of the Phantom Troupe.
Ring Finger: "Dousing Chain" (lit. "The Guiding Ring Finger") He uses this chain most frequently--eg. he catches bullets with it at the Flesh Collector's mansion. It is also used to help him detect information--He uses it to weed out the spy among Neon's bodyguards.
Little Finger: "Judgement Chain" (lit. "Arbiter Little Finger") Kurapika sets up two conditions and sets the chain around the victim's heart. If he or she violates a condition, the chain will kill. Kurapika uses this, for example, to get Chrollo to promise never to return to the Spiders. If Chrollo returns while the chain is still there, Chrollo will die.
Current Status::
Having killed Uvogin and Pakunoda and sent Chrollo in exile, Kurapika leaves with Melody. They still work for Neon, though the situation has become far grimmer as Chrollo has stolen Neon's profitable fortune-telling power. It is hinted that, after the crippling fever he fell into following his ordeal with Chrollo, Pakunoda, and Hisoka, he will focus more on finding the eyes of his people than actually hunting the Troupe. The fact that Killua notes that "He sounds a lot calmer than I thought he would be" when Killua tells Kurapika that he has seen a person named "Chrollo Lucilfer" in Greed Island indicates that Kurapika may be rethinking his life's purpose.
Chrollo has most likely gotten his chain removed. Kurapika knows this, but has of yet not taken any action.
UPDATE: Kurapika is back in the manga! He is seated in a dark room surrounded by jars of eyes, which suggests he has successfully recovered the eyes of his people.
...and then HxH went back on hiatus!
