About
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read this description of myself, referred to on the digital globe as simply "Kughii". Now buckle up, 'cause it's gonna be a long ride.
To clear up the big questions I'm always asked right off the bat; I'm not gay, carrying a joint, or hitting on you. I have no idea why people ask me those questions. First, I appreciate men physically but as a heterosexual (I am not homophobic; many of my friends are gay), I have never done drugs, and women aren't my strong suit. Just because I have a fashion sense that outstrips most middle-class males, dance in the street when people are looking at me funny, or smile and stare deeply into your eyes instead of your "white meat" (Thank you Sir Winston Churchill), doesn't mean I am or participate in any of the "three big Q's" that get thrown my way.
Whew, rant over with. Let's move on, shall we?
I view myself as the protagonist of my own life, an inner warrior learning the ropes of manhood in a society where cellular phones and internet technology have superseded the need for mastery in penmanship or manners. I have a practice of self-initiated study, going to the library and checking out books on linguistics, history, art, psychology, and any subject I wish to learn in more detail. My passion is play. Wherever this passion takes place you will find me there laughing and encouraging others to have the time of their lives.
Writing, sword practice and sparring, music, and board game design are all hobbies and pursuits in equal measure, often combining into connected webs of activity.
Writing: I am slowly working on an original novel series of my fantasy, combining several science fiction genres with overarching themes of environmental health and human endurance. The BZPRPG is my daily dose of sci-fi free-writing, and I have been playing this Bionicle text-based game since 2010. It is by far one of the best communities of writers and players I have found, and I recommend simply taking a look when you need some quality science-fiction/tropical paradise/sandbox story reading. Technical writing is not my strong suit, though I am practicing daily to improve my skills in that field.
Sword: There is a difference between a paid mercenary and a spiritual warrior. Warriors in many cultures have gravitated to the sword as the weapon of choice, often giving the humble slab of metal a highly spiritual quality. Having finally travelled across the hump in my own practice of enjoying blunt violence and martial arts for the sake of defeating an opponent, I am beginning a self-journey down the spiritual road to enlightenment through my blade. On weekends I run a sparring club in the locale of where I live which uses foam wasters for free-sparring and group bouts. On my own I use wooden wasters to develop a style and rhythm that matches my own beliefs.
Music: I have to admit, when I actually practice I'm one sexy sax player. Unfortunately, I rarely practice anymore. I played in Brazilian, Latin, and Classic Jazz bands during my years as a musician, though currently my poor horns are sitting in their cases while I make excuses for not practicing.
Board Game Design: Play being my passion, board games quickly became a fast and common outlet to direct my attention as an only child. Within a few years I had begun to develop my own games from start to finish, be they war-games, field games, dice games, RPGS, or card-games (I once made a card game for Bionicle characters as a kid that I still remember to this day... It's actually a lot of fun). In the works for future public purchase are two games. I won't say more now, but look forward to seeing them unveiled in the near future!
Other things I enjoy, though are less likely done, include:
Going to the movies with friends, eating food, shopping to laugh at cheap clothing in major department stores and not actually buy anything, eating good food, reading novels by authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, Christopher Paolini, Clive Barker, Barbara Kingsolver; cooking great food with family, taking long walks or hikes through towns and wilderness, finding a cheap but delicious restaurant for quick food, biking and swearing when I get a flat, speaking in Japanese to tourists, consuming spicy food, parkour, having a bento prepared by a girl who likes me, aikido training in public spaces to help my concentration, describing the taste of a roast beef sandwich, sharing and caring, savory food, and learning about world cultures.
Did I mention I'm really into eating good food?
Boys in American society go through 8 main occupations: The fireman, the policeman, the cowboy, the knight, the pirate, the ninja, the rebel, and the salary-man.
In perfect Kughii style, I was the Native American, the knight, the monk, and then landed firmly for the rest of my childhood in The Samurai. Spiritual Warrior? Check. Normal American? Still waiting for the bus. Public transportation was never Seattle's forte.
Musical tastes:
Classical (BACH BABY!)
Hip-Hop and Rap (that has lyrics, not "screw me baby", esp. when the message is profound)
Dupstep (that's not American screech style)
Jazz in all forms
Trailer and Thematic Music
World Music, esp. percussion and tribal
Smooth rock
'80s pop/rock music
Country (Hunter Hayes. Come on. You know you love him too.)
