It was alright- they were mostly jesting when they told me to hammer down on the gas xd I school buses are odd, but practical- they can transport everyone in groups to their equipment- drivers in one bus, operators in another.
No worries ^^ I didn't really know what to expect before I started working there. I thought it would be a really boring job at first, but between how friendly everyone was- and all the reading I could do biggrin - it was really enjoyable. The $12/ hour was also nice xd
oooo, that sounds like a VERY interesting novel! I think I should go read it now! ninja The entire Lord of the Rings series, all combined into one book, is only 100 pages longer than It O.O At least they were divided into 3 books! I should tackle Stephan King too
Sounds like you should read her dairy now 3nodding I'm a history major, so I guess it comes naturally a bit ^^; Sorry about that
I know the feeling sweatdrop My brother and I would hide our Game Boys under furniture in our room when our parents walked by. Looking back, I'm still not sure how I graduated high school with a 3.5 GPA sweatdrop
Well, I should correct myself- I have found my oldest books at library book sales 3nodding There are plenty of old ones at bookstores, though! A used bookstore near my university has old Oz novels, and some Superman books from the 30s and 40s, as well as very old copies of several Twain and Dickens novels O.O Really cool, and really pricey! I wish you had some bookstores near you- that is such a bummer Borders closed! ;w; *is secretly trying to wish a used bookstore in existence near you*
Thank you! emotion_kirakira
Oooh, that sounds really good! emotion_drool I know why I have not heard of Jamba Juice- the closest one is almost 60 miles away from me! D: Maybe when I'm near one, I can try it biggrin Mmm, Cottan Candy sounds good! My personal favorite is Cookies and Ice Cream- can't go wrong with 2 sweet treats! biggrin

Good point! I guess it's a good thing I live out in the country a bit ninja Better stick to a regular shower, just in case xd
Not bad, actually xd The mine uses old school buses to transport the operators from the parking lot to their respective machines, and back again when the shift is done. It was only annoying because people kept yelling at me to drive faster, despite my first time ever driving a bus ^^; they REALLY wanted to get home XD
That's old school mining 3nodding I'm sure there are some mines in the world that operate that way, but the majority are driven by machines. I worked for Peabody Energy, one of the largest coal providers in the world. They have mines in the U.S. , China, and Australia, to name a few places.
It can be dangerous- that's why "Safety is #1!" Safety training is mandatory once a year, and there are a lot of regulations in place. Basically, if anything goes wrong, most of the time it is due to human error.
1000 pages? Wow! That's a lot for one book O.o What is the story of It? Now I'm curious! smile I've heard a lot of good things about Stephan King! Would you say that he's one of the greatest horror authors of all time?
History is the one subject I'm okay at xd I really enjoy biographies- especially autobiographies! biggrin - because they allow a reader to better understand the thoughts and actions of people in history. I still have not read the Diary of Anne Frank either sad I really need to!
I know the feeling- I had to shut myself away from my computer and games so I could focus on my studies ^^;
That's a good point! I really like used bookstores heart There is one a little ways from my house, and when I walk in I always find some quirky stuff! Chief among them as been very odd role-playing modules (like a Book of Yoma for a Sailor Moon table top RPG) to original Japanese manga! I'd take them home, but I don't know any Japanese xd They are a good source for older books though- I like collecting old books! my oldest one so far is a biography of President William McKinley, printed in 1901- just months after his assassination! O.O I would REALLY like to get a job at another bookstore, but so far, no luck sad
What is Jamba Juice? It sounds really cool biggrin I've only been to a Coldstone Creamery once, but man do they have good ice cream biggrin

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your good grades biggrin
You are absolutely right! Hot showers are AMAZING! Another good way to relax. heart
Taking a shower in the rain saves on water, if I think about it. Hmmmmm . . . maybe I should give it a shot ninja
I bet you could drive one too- just training and paying attention to your surroundings 3nodding It took me about 2 work weeks ( 8 days) to full get the hang of it and drive by myself. At a mine, safety is paramount! It's the law to wear safety equipment at all times while on-site, equipment is checked every before it is used (so at least twice a day), safety training, an so on. It is technically private property, so one does not need a license to drive vehicles on-site; just the proper training to operate it. I even drove a school bus xd
I'm sorry for not explaining it properly gonk It is all done by machines. In an open pit mine (like the one I worked in), bulldozers, and trucks akin to mine loaded by a giant shovel move dirt to reach the bed rock. They blast the rock, then move it with dozers and a shovel. Once they reach the coal, they load it up and take it it to the plant to be cleaned and shipped. The only operations done by hand are setting the charges, which the powder crew places. Did that make sense? ^^;
I think it is fantastic that you are such an avid reader! Good for you! biggrin I have read, and really enjoy, The Lord of the Rings, as well as The Hobbit and Simarillion, and I really enjoyed the movies. I have not worked up the courage to read any novels like The Silence of the Lambs or Stephan King- a little too close to reality for me ^^; I really should though, as they are considered classic novels. What are some books from that genre that you would recommend? One of my goals is to try and read some classics like Dracula, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and history books. I really enjoy biographies ^_^ Don't let your friends dissuade you from your favourite books! biggrin Grades are really important, though . . . says the boy who read manga and played GameBoy when he was supposed to do his homework sweatdrop
I hope they do- I think it is much more practical for you to get your license soon! My parents make me drive every chance they get! xd
Well, it may not end, but it is not in a school setting either. That counts for something, right? >_>
I worked for Follett Higher Education Group. We sold more than books- we sold clothes, electronics, school supplies, accessories, but of course, mainly books ^^ Thank you- I though it was a great job. There were some really cool books in there- and some weird textbooks XD

Thank you ^_^
Think positive! I'm sure you did better on your test than you think you might have smile
I was jesting, but I bet someone somewhere has done just that xd I'll just wait for a regular shower =3
Well, it was difficult at first 3nodding When one is driving a truck 18 feet tall- and that is the smallest one on the job!- it is intimidating. Once I got the gist of it, though, it was pretty nice. It was easy because I mainly hauled coal, and the pit was about a mile or two from the plant. The reason I had time to read books was due to the long loading time of the coal loader- it would take two, three minutes to load. Sometimes we sat waiting for a coal pad to be prepared for us to load on, ad that took time too The days I hauled rock in the pit were REALLY boring, and the rainy days were actually kind of dangerous ^^; My favorite book? Hmmm . . . during my time at the coal mine, I would have to say one of my favorite books was Robot Visions, a short story collection by Isaac Asimov. A collection of Sherlock Holmes stories and Frankenstein were also very good reads. My favorite books overall? Besides Lord of the Rings, that's a bigger list ^^; The Obsidian Trilogy is really good. Did I answer that question satisfactory? I have a bigger list on my profile ^^; What about you, Miss Krieye? What kind of books do you enjoy?
They still said no? I'm sorry to hear that sad I wish I could help somehow.
I think they do- I know my dad does have tests, at least- he even has homework from time to time xd
You are right- someone manning a register would probably have a calculator. I had one when I worked at a college bookstore. I think they have that test (which also deals with reading and organizing skills) to make sure they have well-rounded employees. If a program malfunctions, a register goes out, or they just need to double check their calculations, math skills would be a boon. Does that make sense? ^^;

Sorry I'm late on the reply again ;w; I really hope your test went well, despite all the homework! You are right, though- having a ton of homework due on a test day stinks D:
Oh! I didn't know one had to run both distances! ^^; That would make it harder, especially if one ran other events besides those.
I agree that running in the rain is fun 3nodding And you are so right- a warm shower is SO nice afterwards! Except for the cold hands part xd Maybe one could take a shower during the rain- bring a little soap and shampoo? ninja Just kidding wink
I worked as a temporary truck driver at a mine in Indiana- my uncle was nice enough to put a word in for me. After learning the ropes of driving a truck as big as a 2-story house, it was both parts interesting and boring. I read a lot of books those 2 summers xd At $12 an hour, it paid well for a summer job.
I hope your parents can be convinced otherwise sad Do you think taking a driver's education class would persuade them to let you drive? They do have a fee, but I think the class would be very helpful.
I would probably want to go back to my sophomore year- that was my most enjoyable year. Being formally introduced to Japanese anime that year was a highlight biggrin
Well, even as an adult, depending on one's job, one may still have to take classes. The classes may not last 9 months, but necessary to the job. My dad has to take classes in order to learn how to install, operate, and care for new computers and operating systems.
That is a point many a person raises about advance math and science. I myself do not use algebra, geometry, or science all that much. Remembering basic math and science is a really good idea though- I applied for a job at Family Video, and I failed the math section of their pre-employment test because I did not remember how to multiply fractions and calculate percentages (we were not allowed to use calculators), so they turned me down. gonk

Well, look at the bright side- you have more time to study, right? 3nodding That's what I would do!
Thank you! You are right ^^ Is long distance in track 1 mile or 2? I really hope you can find a track group to run with- that would be a great way to stay in shape! biggrin
Yeah, but we were wet already, so we did not really mind- and yeah, we would have had to run through the creek anyone, but it would have only been around our ankles instead of our knees if not for the rain xd
I'm sorry sad I kind of know the feeling- having a full tank of gas and being able to drive where ever you want is liberating smile I worked at a coal mine for two summers, and it felt good to be able to drive myself anywhere I wanted to go 3nodding I did not get my driver's license until I went to college- and did not drive after that for 6 months XD: My parents did not want me to drive during high school so I could "focus on my studies." Why would your parents not want you to drive until you're 30? D:
Thank you for your optimism biggrin I just have to keep trying!
Yeah, me too ^^; I wish I could go back and remedy some of the mistakes I made in high school. Kids want the privileges of being an adult, and adults want the simplicity of childhood.- that's what I think, anyway ^^; I thought the same thing half way through college- all this education! D: If one needs it to succeed in life though, I'll do it.

Well, look at the bright side- you have been training, so they'll have to best your times to get back on varsity, right? You can do it! biggrin
I'm sorry I responded so late ;w; I really hope you did well on your Stoichiometry test today! biggrin
Well, you could cross-train with cross country and up your endurance- as much as you run, I bet you have good endurance already 3nodding I'm the same, in an opposite way- I think track would be very hard for me due to all the running in short, quick bursts ^^;
Oooh, you have a very good point- rain+wind= chilly sad I remember one cross country meet was entirely in the rain- we even ran through a flooded creek. xd
I'm sorry for your luck with teachers sad I was very fortunate to have great teachers in high school and college. I'm sure you can still learn something from your teachers 3nodding
I know what you mean ^^ After being in control of my own schedule (to a degree, of course- I still had classes and work), and being able to hang out with my friends whenever, I really enjoy being by myself. It stinks to be back at home, but jobless gonk And I do miss high school, to an extent. sad It's part of getting older, unfortunately ^^;

Varsity? That is really good! emotion_kirakira The one and only time I made varsity was because the last guy was so sick he missed most of the season. XD= I was not as dedicated to the sport as I should have been gonk Good luck- I know you can make it! That goes for your homework too- I hope you get it all done- losing sleep is no fun! D:
Well, they could be right. Cross country is a slower pace of sort- the whole "slow-twitch muscles" and "fast-twitch muscles" thing. I know some people at my high school ran both track and cross country. I think they did the long distance track event, but some might have done hurdles or what not too. It's been too long ^^;
3 miles was okay- some of the guys could run 8 miles O.o In college it was even crazier- the race distance is 5 miles, and the team could run anywhere from 5 to 10 miles for practice! O.O I did not join because I knew I would not cut it.
Well, I'd wear a hat at first, but once I get going, I'll take it off once I get too warm.
I actually don't mind running in the rain. Partially because my coach would not call off practice unless imminent danger approached, like lightning or tornadoes. So we ran through the rain a few time for practice. During the summer it's nice because it keeps you cool biggrin I'm a guy, though, so it's probably not as much fun for you ^^; I didn't think about that.
That's a bummer D: Teachers make or break a subject. And WHOA that looks complex! I never studied Stoichiometry, just basic Chemistry XD= Good luck on your finals! biggrin
Well, college definitely requires a lot of self-discipline, in my opinion. No one is there to make sure your homework gets done but you. I learned that the hard way sweatdrop I also think it's a wonderful place to meet new people, learn new ideas, and generally expand one's horizons. I had wonderful professors in college, and they taught me a lot- and not just in the classroom either.

Oh! What position are you in on the track team? I never ran track because I thought it would interfere with the spring play the high school did ever year (as well as my homework). In hindsight, it may not have been bad idea- I'm a decent sprinter (I think) sweatdrop I agree- having a group of friends to exercise with really helps biggrin I bet you can be a good cross- country runner with some practice! When I began attending my school system after we moved, I could barely jog 2 laps around the school gym sweatdrop After running cross-country in junior high, by high school I was able to run 3 miles alright xd
I kind of have the same problem- my nose gets really cold, and my ears if I am not wearing a hat.
Science is a wonderful subject- I wish I remembered more about it XD= Chemistry was the one subject I did not delve into deeply- I never took it in high school and only basic chemistry in college. ^^; What kind of concepts are you studying?

I'm still working on that though sweatdrop Running is on my agenda- I used to run cross-country in high-school, and I still enjoy exercising outside, even in the cold ^_^

I really need to clean my room, sweep the floors, and more sweatdrop I surf the net mainly to read comics and try and catch friends on Gaia. If I find a new webcomic, and I like it, I can spend the whole day reading through the archives XD:
