About

Hi I'm Kio, I've been on Gaia for....for....for a really long time. I'm in college now (when did that happen?) studying to be an aerospace engineer. I like Manga, American comics, space stuff, old television shows, and books. I _love_ books. I love them so much I'm writing some myself.

If you see me on send me a messege and we can do a round of HOC, monster galaxy or ZOMG, i'm probably "writing a paper" or some such blahs and would appreciate the distraction.

I guess I show a rational outlook. I don't exactly hate people based upon their skin color. I did actually grow up being bullied by no other race than Hispanics, which led me to dislike them a lot. I guess that part of me is kind of fading away. Anyway, before reaching around 4th or 5th grade, I had no problem with any other race. My mother basically told me to never hate anybody based on their skin, so I did my best not to. I say I did my best not to, because I ended up calling a black kid chocolate since he called me powder. I had never even heard of this "race" word. I obviously now know what racism is. I can't tell people I have friends of color, because apparently that means I'm a covert racist. rolleyes

Being white, we're automatically deemed racist. That's our stereotype. It's not honky or redneck, it's racist. And unless you can prove to the world that you're not, you'll be seen as one. We go out of our ways to show the world that we're not, but in the end, people still look at us as racist. This word has been used far too long for me too even really care anymore. Now the new way to show racism is if you show no interest in someone who isn't white. In other words, if you don't date outside your race, then you're a racist. I'm not falling for that, as I can't help who I'm interested in and who I'm not interested in. It's just another coy to make us feel guilty, and unfortunately in this day-in-age, it works.

As whites, we're automatically rich. We never struggle like minorities. We never have to make a living ourselves, as our parents apparently did so for us before we were even born. We grew up getting to choose our skin color, just like the minorities chose theirs. The fact of the matter is is that we manage our money, we do struggle, we do make a living ourselves, and some of us just so happen to have parents who are their to support us. We didn't get to choose our skin color, and suddenly I'm a racist for something I had no choice in. Like I said before, I'm done feeling guilty. We weren't a part of the past, therefore we should feel no guilty or remorse. I'm aware that racism is a problem. But as a white person, my White Privilege says otherwise.

I truly hope you don't ever feel guilty for something you didn't do. I believe this has been going on for at least four decades if I recall correctly. It's about time it ends. Because in reality, we're the ones apparently trying to stop racism. Others just seem to remind the world of how bad our ancestors were.

Enlightened? I don't believe I deserve that title or praise. There was a previous post where he implied that only whites could be racist, and I told him that he was racist for making that statement. He then tried to back pedal telling me that what he meant was something else. However, I can't say I'm any better. I have become extremely tired of hearing how I'm blind because I have White Privilege, and tired of being told what I can and cannot see that minorities can. I've grown tired of having to be guilty because society says I must. I'm honestly not sure what to call myself anymore. If I am a racist, then so be it. I'm sorry.

There isn't any point trying to argue with that person. He/she feels the need to have the last word. He/she speaks of racism more than enough.
