I wear many hats, I am a Mother of TWO wonderful Son's. I am a Grams to a wonderful Grandson,I have to update this, I am now the Grams to TWO wonderful Grandsons. My son will see how it is raising two boys! I guess it is true, the only curse that really works is the one that mothers say, " when you grow up and have a family, I hope you have a child that is just like you" ! TOOO FUNNY!
I am a Master Gardener, A Master Herbalist, and I am really an Enigma, I am a Certified Paralegal, and a Certified Phlebotomist. I am a Medical Assistant, and at present, I am a stay at home full time gardener. I live with my Significant other, we were handfasted several years ago at Summer Solstice, but unfortunately he broke the cords that we were bound with and now we are living together, he is trying to earn back my trust, and I am trying to stay positive that someday I may be able to trust him again. I am not sure that day will come, but I will wait, you never know if someone truly wants to gain trust, or if they are just saying that. I now believe he really is trying to do so ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.
I was born on the Spring Solstice and many of the most important events of my life have occurred either on a Solstice, or a Sacred Sabbath, yes, I am a Pagan. The Earth is the Mother, and she has taken care of us for so very long, and we have not dealt fairly with her. We take while she gives. She has given and given, and we have taken, with out any return, now, we find that we have taken, perhaps too much, perhaps she will not have much more to give, our soil is depleted, we have polluted our air, we have spoiled our water, we have created a world that is not that beneficial to life, we did this, we continue to do this. This is nothing new, even back in the dark ages, when I was in High School we were taught ecology, the water was being polluted then, we knew that the air was being polluted by fossil fuel, we were not the Baby Boomer Generation, we were the post, perhaps the Hippi generation, most of us, have done nothing but continue to do the same to the earth that the generation before did. why? Greed, money, not ignorance, they can not say they did NOT know, perhaps the earth may still be able to produce in your generation, and in your children's, but what about their children? The food we eat, unless we grow it ourselves have little or no nutritional value anymore, in the 1950's the Iron content in Spinach was over 50%, now, it is probably less than 10%. We must wake up and do something to change things. Not just ecology, but in the political world too. Our Constitutional Rights, the very things that Men have DIED for, the Men that are buried over the seas in other countries, fought against Communism, and Socialism, now the United States of America looks like a Socialist Country. We must take back the power that the Constitution gives us. We must not forget that we the People are the Government, they work for us, not the other way around. I am writing this right before the Memorial Day Weekend, of 2010. Most people think that it is just the first weekend of the Summer, they forget that it is in Memory of all those who made the GREATEST SACRIFICE. They gave all they had, just so we could be free. We have got to change the we think about things...
Hopefully I can add some photo's of my children, I have a lovely daughter in law, that I am training to be a Gardener, she has the fever, she only needs the technique, and my Grandson, Dylan is so very helpful in planting and very curious about the natural world, I will always encourage his curiosity, if you are curious, you will never find yourself bored.
I love Fairies and I plant Herbs and flowers for their benefit. I try to make my garden as friendly for them as I possibly can, from anything that they may wish to eat, to things they can use in their houses, or clothing. For instance they can use Foxglove for hat's and cups, and depending on the size of the fae, there are many web pages now that have wonderful ideas about what you can use for the fae, you can make tables, huts, and even teepees, because there are many different types of fairies and imp's and elf's and even Leprechan's and yes, I am Irish, so I know that you must be very careful with the wee folk, they can be your friend, or your foe. If you make an enemy of a wee one, your life will be made miserable until you can make amends with the one you offended. That is not always such an easy task.
I am blessed to live on a bluff, where I can observe all sorts of wildlife, I have deer grazing in my yard, and as I sit here I can observe a pair of brown wrens building a nest in a birdhouse gourd that I grew and hung up for them to be able to nest. They have taken it to be there own and are busy going back and forth making ready for the clutch they will have, then, when the time comes, if I am lucky enough to be here, I will see the baby birds come out of the gourd to take the very first steps outside, into the world, I have seen several wrens and other birds fledge their young from that birdhouse and from others that were built right on my deck, safe and sound from wind, rain, and any type of animal that may prey on the young, or the eggs, and yes, I have snakes also, some that are venomous, but, I leave them be, they have their place here too. All animals are held as sacred on this land, they are given refuge. Even the lightning bugs that come out and sparkle in the night in June. They are given food, shelter, and they know no fear of a Human preying on them. They are safe here. The last Kitten that showed up on our steps is now a house cat, we have 4, all rescues of some sort. My Annie, my little girl(she has lost some weight, she is getting older, she is 10 now and has some heart problems but she weighs 129lbs), is the only one that is not a rescue, she is a Great Pyrenees and she is a pure breed, she is a livestock guardian dog, and she watches over all of us, and her bark is enough to keep any human from preying on us,or her kitties. The first two babies (cats)came from the pound, the second is a feral that I tamed when I was working and ended up having to go back after I left that job and bring him home, he was a very tiny, tiny kitten, now he is 30 lbs, he simply was afraid there would never be enough food, he was hungry and cold for so long, so he ate everything. The last Cat we adopted was on the deck waiting on us everyday. I was supposed to take her to the shelter, well, she is living the good life here, inside, all the cats are inside cats, I feed the birds, and I know that Cats have instincts that no matter how full they are they are going to chase birds, I cannot have cats going after the birds that I feed. The animals are happy and are much safer inside, no matter what a lot of people might think, cats can live very happy lives inside, and even prefer to be inside. Climate control, they are never hungry, cold or in danger House Cats tend to be healthier, and live longer.
Since we live up on a bluff, we have Eagles, several types, the Golden Eagle, and the bald eagle, we are close to water, there are good food sources here, we have Peregrine Falcons that just sit in the trees, waiting for a rabbit, rat, mole, snake, they see things you would never even guess, I have been driving down the interstate and seen a hawk swoop down, and pick up a fat rabbit to have for dinner, I have also seen a Golden Eagle pick up a snake and fly off with it. A hawk could easily grab a cat, one or a coyote, or wolf, they even go after small dogs. Bear pass through from time to time, trying to travel from the Big South Fork, near the KY,TN border to the Great Smoky Mountains, which is quite a long trip, the only problem they run into is PEOPLE. People are so far removed from the natural world that they freak out when they see a "wild" animal, who actually has more business here than we do. .
