Shadow King Kyouya Report | 08/25/2014 2:57 am
**Haha. Exactly. In the end I don't have anything to gain with spilling kin's blood, don't you think?** Were he face to face with her, Jishin would have seen him smiling. There was an implication that he considered that route, though whether he thought of it a pity, or something he dared not do even with no consequences attached, he left it up in the air. Kyouya took his seat again, waiting for the song book to make its round towards his direction.

**It is, though it's not difficult to see the reason for the choice.** It told not only of pages in the history books, but of the brutal nature of war. He wondered, briefly, if it reflected any hesitance considering her position in her family. **And no, you have my selectivity to thank for that. I don't actively go out of my way to look for new artists, only acquiring songs as I hear them-- and if I like it, then I like it. But this should be a start.**

**I found the songs.** He jotted down the string of numbers under Billy Joel's name. As for the song choice? New York was only a few states above them, so why not? True to its namesake it never slept. N.Y. always rang with excitement, be it numbers crunching in Lower Manhattan or the flashing lights of Time Square-- among many, many others. Maybe with luck the song choice would subconsciously prompt Tamaki. ** On standby now**

"Excuse me a moment," Kyouya rose from his seat and made way for the door. Hikaru's singing muffled with a click behind him. The halls buzzed with a din of garbled songs pervading from the rooms, and he felt it shaking the carpet beneath his feet. But it was quiet enough here, Kyouya thought. He then fastened on his headphones, skimming through lyrics while he confined himself to Jishin's hand-picked melodies. A few moments passed. After gathering his opinions on what he had sampled, Kyouya began his reply.

**Ha ha. Millions is thinking too small, don't you think? On a serious note, no thank you, I'd rather not.** came the opening.

**New York State of Mind I know. It's perfect. Billy Joel also brought Vienna to mind. I'll look for both of those.** 'Add it to Bigger Than My Body ... and maybe even Stars.' That last one wasn't personal, still it carried passion and an air of respectability, which he liked.

**The rest I'm not too familiar with, but I can see some of them in a next time, perhaps.**

It wasn't realistic to sing those flawlessly within thirty minutes, but he makes note to add them to his collection. Admittedly, some of the lyrics hit a bit too close to home.

Slowly he grows aware of his mild state of unease. These songs, he realized, weren't any he found on his own. He had asked an outsider's recommendation-- which no doubt would have been made on an assessment of himself.

He pushed the thoughts aside-- Kyouya was being overly cautious of any cracks, that was all-- and makes his gratitude known.

**Thanks for the recommendations, Miss Jishin.** he typed as his feet led him back into the room.

**Travelling is nothing new to me, but living in a foreign land for an extended period of time is. The people I've encountered so far have been amiable, though I must say there is a strong sense of individualism going on about here. Meanwhile, the Japanese have this sense of community and relations ever-pressing upon their consciousness. Though, it must be too early to tell.**

Kyouya did feel a bit more independence, being thousands of miles away from the direct scrutiny of his father and the people who knew him. Of course, he was fully aware it wasn't to be an excuse for slacking-- not that he ever wanted to make it a foothold. As soon as he made connections outside of the Host Club, he was certain that his usual defenses will fall into place once again. ** I'll reassess when I meet people within the campus**

**Haha, is that how you think of me? I take offense.** He continued to write as if he had dropped the subject. Wisecracks were often lost in written word, and ending with one often causes unnecessary tension to envelope in the air. **I'm trying to gather a short list of dignified choices... ** And Kyouya was certain those would be further narrowed down. He couldn't help but suspect that karaoke picks were rigged to portray either the "fun" side of people or the "sappy." Anything else that fell outside of these two categories seemed unheard of.

** Would you perhaps know any that fit the bill? ** Kyouya typed with some hesitance. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask Jishin.

[Now you know. Hehe. ]
Shadow King Kyouya Report | 08/19/2014 3:33 am
**Yes, I think I would've. It's an idyllic one, from what I could tell.** Kyouya allowed himself a wry smile. Sometimes Jishin read him a little bit too well than what he'd like. He did enjoy the sights and sounds of travelling, albeit never at the expense of comfort.

** Ah, was it some writing competition?** This was news to him **And thank you, I'll keep those in mind. The Constitution sounds especially fascinating. I'm sure Tamaki would appreciate your suggestions.**

He scrolled to reread the latter part of the message again. **... No. They're all scrambling for that ratty booklet, and queuing their songs.** Kyouya hoped it would remain that way, but knowing Tamaki, he would be inevitably forced to sing. He didn't resent the idea because he couldn't sing at all-- far from it, his voice was surprisingly pleasant for someone with little to no training. Only that Kyouya found it taxing to scour for a song that's neither too idiotic, nor too sentimental that would hint at his deeepest thoughts. Eitherway he would go about it, it was looking like a lose-lose scenario for his dignity. He heaved a sigh and pressed "send", glancing to one side and at the pages Honey-senpai flipped over and around.

Well, if he does end up singing that night, at least they were in the privacy of their own soundproof room.

**Worked out in the end, hmm? That's good to hear** In between typing, he took another glance or two at the photos Jishin sent.
**Hokkaido looks breathtaking, as always. And you all looked like you had a great time. **

Kyouya paused, wincing as Haruhi strained her voice to sing in a duet with Tamaki. Amusing how she was so off-key, Kyouya could swear her voice was almost harmonizing with the melody. Then there were the twins were mocking Tamaki's heartfelt singing, and the cousins with their noses stuck in the pages of the karaoke song list. Miss Jishin's regards can wait, Kyouya thought, for when everything was less unruly. He shook his head and resumed typing the rest of his reply.

** Ah, no I hadn't the chance to... Tamaki was saving that for a group activity. Have you been here before?
And no, not at all. In fact I must thank you for helping me pass the time. We're at a karaoke. Imagine the fun.**

[Heh... I'm at an obvious disadvantage then. -smiles- I've only been at the surrounding states.]
Shadow King Kyouya Report | 08/16/2014 10:11 am
Meanwhile, Kyouya found himself at a Japanese-style karaoke. Why? It was Tamaki's idea of family bonding. The rest enjoyed singing to their hearts' content, on the other hand it was hardly Kyouya's idea of fun. He reclined further into the faux leather couch, idly texting away till everyone decided they had their fill.

**Of your own accord, I take. May I ask what kind of camp?
I'm well, and so are the others. I can send your regards, if you wish.
Let's see... The corners of my unit, the view outside my window-- we took a while settling in. On a more serious note, I have seen the Public Garden and the Boston Tea Party Museum**

Kyouya reaches into his pocket to read the message on his phone. He briefly checks the clock before typing away.

"Good afternoon Miss Jishin. Indeed it has. Are you doing well?
Taking in the sights while I can. Classes don't start until another few weeks.
How are things over there?"
Eyes Report | 07/04/2014 3:16 pm
