It's like you could talk about yourself for hours to a more or less willing audience but as soon as you're faced with a blank expanse to write on, your mind goes blank, your words dry up.
I read a fanfic last year based on a popular webcomic. In the fanfic, a character casually slaughters one of his underlings and writes with the blood, and in a following scene, the characters are all aghast because a rape may have been committed. SINCE WHEN IS MURDER LESS THAN RAPE? I don't care that both are fictional. I care that a sadistic murder was treated as comedy, and that a near-rape was dark and serious. When murder isn't serious, it's no wonder that more kids are bringing guns and knives to school.
