Date Masamune is depicted as a cool, ambitious daimyo who wants to unify Japan. He speaks in a cool manner, to the point that he even inserts English words to his lines.
He normally fights with one sword, but on some occasions he will fight with all of his six swords -three in each hand-. When he is using all six swords he can attack faster and more ferociously, but on the downside he cannot guard and will receive more damage if attacked.
In the anime adaption, Date Masamune is portrayed as being impulsive, often charging straight into battle, disregarding his odds. He is accompanied by Katakura Kojūrō, often referred to as the Right Eye of the Dragon, and his horse which has handlebars and an exhaust pipes attached to it. Masamune leads his group of warriors from Oshu, most of which look and behave like Yakuza. Date prefers to fight one-on-one, often starting battles by issuing the a challenge to the enemy general and having his army stand back. During battles he shown to use mainly use only one of his swords, although he will draw all six of them if necessary. He is shown to use only Death Fang, War Dance and Hell Dragon and limits their use to only when all his swords are drawn (except Hell Dragon which was only used once with one sword). Masamune's first lines, spoken in English ("Are you ready guys?" "Put ya guns on!"), in the anime have reached meme-status among fans.
