Peeking into a wooden crate I stood there at a loss for words, I gazed at a small furry animal through the miniscule holes punctured in the box. "It kind of looks like a cat don't you think?" I question the man in a keen discriminating manner "It cant be that dangerous can it?". The man simply replied with a deceptive grin then finally replied in broken English "The men... they called it... el Pequeño Monstruo".
"Sir... I don't understand what that means, but surely it cant be that dangerous, its kind of cute to be honest" I inqure as I use a flashlight to point at the little red and white cat that almost resembles a common tabby. "It doesn't look...very..." then words seemed to fail me; the cat eyed the light. I saw its face fully finally, its eyes crimson red staring directly at the flashlight. My lips trembled at first then I finally managed "Where did you find this again?". The suspicious man replied with a grin from ear to ear "Now you look... like you want this... thing... but first we must talk the price".
The nerve I instantly thought to myself but tried to keep my cool, this animal must be nearly extinct, the exhibition would direly help the zoo. "Name your price? If it is agreeable we can talk business, but I will need to know where you got that animal. For the Zoos sake I'm sure you understand, these things can carry quite an undesirable amount of diseases, so its best I know its general location so I know what to look for." I was bluffing of course, but it was all I had. The man was quiet at first then replied finally "In the amazon.... my English is not good you see... they mine and find underground cave... I think is how you say it... at first find many normal things we find... then this". The man got really quiet and started to grow ghastly pale "It took many people to catch one... they are like bat from your American movies you see... they like the flavor of sangre".
Curiosity officially peaked I replied "Whats sangre?". The man was now a pale white, lips quivering he finally replied "I believe in English... is... is blood, but now we must discuss price." I was at a loss for words and finally decided to start a bidding war with the man. "I will settle for 1 million U.S.dollars" he said abruptly "I will be back in a few days with this animal. Talk to your people if you need, but this... this is one of a kind. I guarantee nobody has this." The man left swiftly, grabbing the crate and exiting the building. Leaving me with a million questions.
