I always figured learning things had more to do with curiosity or utility, and that people that tend to be more curious and are knowledge seekers and self-learners are probably among the more intelligent people. Of course, telling people about what they know needn't exclusively be for the purposes of self-aggrandizement or condescension but can merely be because someone would like to share it with others, either for purposes of helping someone else or just as a social function.
