Elly is the gate guard of Mugenkan. Though seemingly powerful, the mansion rarely has any visitors, and thus she's out of practice as far as danmaku is concerned.
Elly is the gatekeeper of Yuka's mansion, which is a border between the dream world and the real world. It's so rare that people come there that she is rather surprised when both Reimu and Marisa show up one after another, and fails miserably to stop both of them from entering. She blames it on the long time it has been since she last fought.
She could've been part of the inspiration for Hong Meiling, as both are Stage 3 bosses who aren't the most competent for their respective jobs as Gatekeepers.
Is notorious for her rage inducing boomerang scythe.
She is the only boss in the series to start out invincible for an extended length of time.
Alternatively, she could have been the base for Komachi Onozuka. Both of them carry scythes and are shown to not be good at their jobs. In Phantasmagoria of Flower View's Extra stages, the enemy is also invincible for an amount of time that increases after each stage.
