"Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we will find it not."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Yes, I did code my own profile. I taught myself here
My name is Jennifer, although online most people typically refer to me as 'Oni', because I use variations of this username everywhere (there are exceptions). I'm 25 going on 26 and I'm currently pulling myself through a community college program. I'm trying to get a Degree in Graphic Design, although its been a bit on the slow side. I'm also currently unemployed, but I'm hoping to get a job in a place I'd truly enjoy, like a library or bookstore.
As you can tell by my lower user number, I've been on Gaia a while. Yes, this was, and still remains, my first account. I've pretty much have come on Gaia every day since then. I've seen plenty of things as well, although there will be times the years have melted together for me, and my memory may be faulty if you ask me about a specific year. I tend to hang out in the original Million Post Thread in Chatterbox a lot. When I'm not there, I'm playing zOMG!, wandering around Chatterbox, dabbling in Alchemy, or offline completely. I used to do more, but I'm definitely not quite as active as I used to be.
Being artistic, as my future degree hints at, I'm pretty fond of anything going on in the art world. I've been drawing since I was a little girl, and took up a love for Photoshop in high school. (My DeviantArt account is actually almost as old as my Gaia account.) I hope to meld my interests in traditional and digital together someday, albeit I don't have the money to do so at this time.
As for movie interests, I grew up during the Disney Renaissance, so I love a lot of the animated Disney movies that came out during the late 80's-early 90's, with my absolute favorites being Aladdin and Hunchback of Notre Dame. I'm also a Don Bluth fan, so I have movies like American Tail, Land Before Time, and the one movie I hold very dear to my heart, All Dogs Go To Heaven. In that same vein, I'm also a fan of We're Back, since I loved dinosaurs growing up. I was very much a tomboy. I've also got a large DVD collection that I will watch occasionally, with far too many to list here, albeit most of them are animated movies or 80's cartoon box sets.
Anime-wise, I'm a huge D.Gray-Man fan. I also like Rurouni Kenshin, Pokemon, Digimon (but only the 1st and 2nd seasons), Samurai Deeper Kyo, Elven Lied, and Soul Eater. My interest in anime has waned severely in recent years, but if you can recommend one to me, I'd be willing to hear you out.
I don't watch much TV, but I enjoy some of the crime shows that are out now. I tend to watch the public broadcasting channels quite a bit, with Nova and Nature being my favorite shows. I also watch the news sometimes...
Now for the big one: I am a huge bookworm. I was taught to read at a very early age, and I've always been good at English and spelling. My favorite genres are fantasy, dystopian, and sci-fi, with some of my favorite series being The Inheritance Cycle, The Graceling Saga, The Hunger Games, Narnia, Harry Potter, The Howl's Moving Castle series, The Dragon Chronicles, and the Uglies. Outside of long sagas, I enjoy dragon books, or books that give a fantasy twist to slice of life stories. I have never read Anne McCaffrey or Anne Rice, sorry. I tend to gravitate towards more modern books. I also read my parent's magazines quite a bit. Reader's Digest is surprisingly good, lol.
I do sometimes play video games. My absolute favorite series of all time is the Legend of Zelda. Mention Zelda and I will more than likely geek out on you. My favorite games are Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask. Because of my talents, I'm also a fan of the 5th Cell games Drawn To Life and Scribblenauts. I also enjoy Mario games, with my favorites being the Mario Kart & Party games and Super Mario World. I enjoy Pokemon as well. The newest game system I own is a black Wii, however, so don't be surprised if you mention something newer than that and I don't know what the heck you're talking about. XD Online connectivity is also a foreign land to me, since I have crazy strong internet security that I'm unwilling to fiddle with (only my Wii and laptop can connect to it properly).
My music interests are limited. I'm a huge Vocaloid fan, so there will usually be a Vocaloid song here on my profile. I also listen to “electronica” quite a bit, although most of the songs are not too well known. I do like some older popular artists, but I don't listen to them much. I also am a country music fan because I grew up on it, and it doesn't bother me. I'm sorry if it doesn't appeal to you. Even I will admit that country is an acquired taste.
I consider myself a non-denominational Christian, which means I believe in God but don't tie myself down to a specific branch. Don't let my beliefs frighten you away though. I'm also rather open minded and have made friends with many different types of people both on and off Gaia.
; w; I'm only human, soz I do have my fair share of problems. I have a bad back, so standing around is something I despise. Also, because of where I live, I don't like the drivers around here. I have a terrible phobia of needles and stingers. I suffer from poor social skills as well, so don't be surprised if I give you a short answer or a closing to a conversation. (typing this bio took forever) I've also have undiagnosed ADD, which I treat with a supplement, so don't be too surprised if I seem distracted or bored at times. More than likely I am. ^^;
Thanks for reading all of this! You can always send a PM or Comment if you want to say something to me. :3
I hang out on these sites as well:
