Born the third son of William Fitzpatrick, a prominent lawyer in Edinburgh, Jacob was raised in a well to do environment. From early on in his life, Jacob was told that he would rise to the top of the Medical field. His brothers, John and James, were being groomed to attain the tops in the fields of Politics and Law, respectively. Jacob studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge in England, while his brother John studied Politics at the University of Oxford, also in England, and his brother James studied Law at Harvard University in the United States.
While studying at Cambridge, Jacob became fascinated with the inner workings of the human body and began the study of Biomedicine. During his time at university, Jacob secretly started performing deplorable experiments on rival students. When a professor discovered what Jacob was doing, Jacob killed the professor and then used the body as a platform for more experimentation. After graduating with top honors and a doctorate in the field of Biomedicine, Jacob returned home to Edinburgh. For a brief time, Jacob led the way in pioneering new research in Biomedicine, but after a while, his dark urge for secret experimentation resurfaced.
During a trip to Gotham City in the United States, Jacob was taken hostage by the Joker. The Joker was badly wounded during the hostage crisis and Jacob volunteered to use his skills to save him. After saving the Joker, Jacob became interested in learning more about the Joker’s reputed skills as a chemist. He was offered the position of the Joker’s personal doctor and a spot in the Joker’s personal troupe, the Commedia Della Morte. Jacob agreed and was dubbed the Dottore by the Joker. He has since become a dark doctor among the criminals of Gotham City, having helped many of the city’s Rogues on occasion, but always remaining loyal only to the Clown Prince of Crime.
