About

---Profile in progress---

The first thing you should know about me is that I absolutely hate writing "about me" sections.

I love collecting quotes and I'll post some of them in a journal entry. Quote collecting may seem odd to you, but I've been doing it for years and I have a few notebooks filled with them. I love it when I come across a new quote that makes me think about something in a different light, or is just plain genius regarding what it's about. I also think that you can learn a lot about a person from the quotes they like.

I am an agnostic-atheist. It gets on my nerves when people say, "I am neither an atheist or a theist; I am agnostic." Guess what? Agnosticism is not a position. (A)theism is referring to the direct belief in a deity, and agnosticism is dealing with the proofs associated with it. In reality, everybody can only be an agnostic-theist or an agnostic-atheist.

Get this: When you say, "I'm not sure because there's no evidence either way,' you're really saying that you don't believe it because nothing has convinced you yet. People are not born with beliefs. A person starts out not believing something, and has to be convinced of it. If there's no evidence for or against something, by default, you don't believe it. Whether you recognize what you believe may not be so simple (unless you know what I am telling you), but there are no in-betweens here. If you try to hide behind agnosticism as a position, here this: You don't believe in God. Yes or no questions have one answer. You can't squish yourself in the nonexistent middle because you don't like the options. You fit in one category whether you like it or not.

How I think about things is like this:

I see the glass as neither half full nor half empty. For some reason, I can only seem to register that the glass is filled to half its capacity.

As in, I'd don't prefer seeing "the bright side" or "the dark side". I enjoy seeing it for what it really is. For this, I might be called somewhat unsympathetic. Fine. I'd rather be this than eluded.

I am not seriously impressed with book smarts. Don't get me wrong; I love an intelligent person (much moreso than a moron), but I am more impressed by persons who can figure things out without a book to guide them. Or figure out the things that a book can't tell you. In essence, I like the thinkers. I admire the truth-seekers.

I also admire people who do what they want regardless of their fears or taboos. Homosexuals who don't fear dating within their sex, two people of different races dating, or getting a tattoo. Dying your hair a 'silly' color. Wearing those raggedy jeans. I heavily admire the people who aren't afraid to be themselves. Or, perhaps it's more like I admire those who are afraid, but do it anyway. It inspires me to me be myself.

I am open-minded and I hang with open-minded people. No, contrary to popular belief, this does not mean that I accept everything and will consider it. I draw the lines somewhere.

I question many laws and morals, and I don't think rules are "right" just because they're rules. People who think like that get on my last nerve. People who do things only because they are told without questioning them annoy me. This doesn't include things like your mom telling you to clean your room, and you do it. More like the people who think stealing is bad under any circumstance because it's "aigenst dah roolz!" People who don't question things are a danger to society.

I'm very heavily opinionated---ask anyone who has ever 'debated 'with me. Either I'll kick your a** or I'll get my a** kicked. There are no in-betweens.

Okay. I'm mega bored. I'll add to this later.

Don't worry about the spacing thing. I gave up on figuring it out lol.

I like Water Lily, well, I guess my mother died when I was four, and the sense of mourning and wishful thinking you get from that poem is something I relate too a lot.

Yeah, your education system sucks a** =P. We have a problem with it being different in every state, too, I think we plan to rectify that soon which is good. It seems so convoluted to do such things, and gives waay too much room for bias haha.

Yeah poor Obama though. His honeymoon time is running low, I think. He ain't doing that bad of a job, but going trillions into debt was a horrible idea imo =P.

Gee uh, it's hard to say. We studied poets in school, but they were not choices we made. iirc they were that Irish guy, uh, Yeats and T.S Elliot. The funny thing about me and poetry is that there has only ever been one poem from a famous poet that ever captured my imagination. It's called 'The Waterlily' by Henry Lawson (big Aussie poet, but you may not know him). You can read it here if you like: http://oldpoetry.com/opoem/show/32272-Henry-Lawson-The-Water-Lily

Of course, it has absolutely nothing to do with war =P. It shares a lot of themes with my most popular poem I've ever written though (No hand to guide your soul, it's on my DA you can find on my profile, or search me in poetry arenas).

As for Authors, no author specifically, but we studied particular books. Looking for Alibrandi (also has a movie, it's an Australian book so you most likely never heard of it, you can watch the movie on Youtube in parts though if you want lol) and Frankenstein (Awesome book). We also covered Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal farm in earlier classes, but I hardly remember them, I love those books from reading them on my own, not because of school lulz.

We learn a fair bit about the USA as you can imagine. However, it's funny, see, when you guys study WWII you probably don't learn a lot about the Australian participation on the Pacific theatre (I know because I've spoken to Americans about it before) but in truth, we did quite a bit (we halted the Japanese advance at Kokoda for example), and we love to talk about it. So when it comes to WWII history there's a big gap in what we study.
