That's true. But the one being helped by someone should do their best to become successful even though the odds of being successful are like looking in a dark water. They shouldn't take it for granted that someone is helping them. Regardless of how hard life is, they need to do their best and soon help others if they are already capable to give help or lend a hand.

It's because I don't have a choice. Though, It doesn't mean I don't want to help people.
And about you, You are not being selfish at all. Seriously you're not. And there's nothing wrong with that kind of thinking.
You just want to help people who deserves your help. And it's called justice.
Technically, the difference from what i do or what I've done whenever I'm working is helping, giving forgiveness or 2nd chance to peoples who committed sins especially criminals.
If I have a choice, I will do the same thing like you do or keep the same mindset like you in helping people who only deserves help. But I would never close my door to bad people who are willing to change after all they've done because all of us commits mistakes and sins in our very own life given by God. The only thing who can decide is God.

Well for me i can say pride is one of the most precious thing you shouldn't give up in your life. And I am pretty aware of what's happening in my life. I decided to put down my pride and stop pursuing better life even though I don't want to because I don't have a choice. Now that I'm here in my current state, then I cannot be successful anymore or have a better life because I decided to submit to a low-pay job just to survive. (Though, I don't regret serving those people who took advantage of us, And I don't regret working in my current job if I'm helping people like me whenever I'm working and lastly because It's only because I don't have a choice and I can't open my own business) But again, helping, giving, loving and inspiring are the things I really want to do in life other than being successful and rich.

It's not about our culture. And you are not being arrogant about saying that. Most of us just need to decide within 24 hours some doesn't even had that time.
For example me: I dreaming of opening a business so I can help other people as well. With my current status in life, I can only do small things for other people by making bead works like rosaries, religious key chains and accessories (that's my current job and that's my boss's business) part of the income goes to the church and to the less fortunate Filipinos who are struggling just to survive like me.
I'm glad i can help them despite of my downsides in life. But honestly, I want a better life like everybody does cause I'm also thinking about future though I can be contented on what life i have if I can't do anything to change it or simply no other choices but to embrace it.
The only thing you can have a better life is to have a business or a better job who can pay better salary so you can save for future business.

To people like us who are less privileged. We just don't have a choice. There are only three option. Be submissive and you will somehow survive another day. If you are picky, then starve and die in hunger. Or just sacrifice yourself to do illegal things just to survive. Those are the basic options that most of us choose from. And about the other people taking advantage of us, We are even thankful that they gave us hope to survive.

Because I believed, You won't achieve anything by lying. Besides, I fear the Lord more than criminals or bad people. That's what the church taught us. Generally all Filipinos are God fearing and very religious. It's just some can't stand the difficulties in life. I understand them whenever I think of putting my self in their shoes. Struggling life will really make you decide to do anything that can make you survive and live another day. (It's just because we are taught that suicide/giving up is the biggest sin) that's why some do anything just to feed their family and survive.

Bikes and Motorcycles. And jeepneys are also a cheap alternative way of transportation. Well, our language is easy to learn because most of our words are just loan words from different language like Spanish, Portuguese, Tamil, Malay, English and many more(Sorry I forgot the others). Though there's a lot of dialects here(around 800+ different dialects excluding the international language of tourists) Tagalog(the language we use in the capital) would be enough if you are going to live in the main city. So it means a province won't understand another province cause they both speak different language.(Sounds ridiculous but It's true) But if you are only able to speak English. It won't be a problem at all. 80%-90% of us can speak English. But not as good as the Americans unless they came from a well-oriented and rich family that can afford to study in exclusive and expensive schools.

It's not advisable to live here if you don't have a business unless you have a pension plan from your country like others. I'm pretty sure that your chances of getting a job here would be as low as mine. Because there will be no company who can pay what you are earning right now. So what other does here is they make a bank account here and loan for example. In mining gold/resources or simply quarrying or other related businesses like developing lot/property into subdivision, town houses or small time apartments and compounds tenement's. They start loaning a 2nd hand Dump truck for $4,000-$5,000 and sign contracts in quarrying sites that the certain company will rent his truck. (I know it because of the news here, there's a lot of developing going on here). Others does lending businesses(Most indians and arabs does it), others open groceries/anything that can import to our country (Most Chinese in does it)

Mahal Kita is correct.
Koi-a should be "Kuya" meaning Big Brother. It's usually used in addressing older strangers(Not too old) whenever you are going to ask something.

Well, we cannot take away the fact that everyone has their own downsides. I can say Filipinos are very humble, hospitable(No matter how hard life is), always stay happy and smile(Despite the hardships in life) and respectful to everyone(not generally of course, but racism doesn't exist here compared to countries I heard that racism do exist like Korea and China) I felt bad how our country's progress and how other Filipinos being forced to submit to illegal doings. But I perfectly understand them/those people regardless of their nationality. Sometimes hardships/difficulties forced someone to do against his/her will. It's just everybody wants a better life or simply, a simple life.
