Nope, they're not too bad. I mean, mine is still a baby so they sleep a lot. But I just make sure to clean the cage once a week and spend a bit of time with her everyday. I think she may be quilling right now so she's a bit temperamental sometimes, haha. Compared to some pets they're quite easy to manage though, and they don't squeak like other rodents do. (:
