Death of a Family
Twisted metal in the street,
screams of agony and pain,
sirens blaring, speeding toward the scene.
Shattered glass among the metal,
a father's cold body on the pavement:
the white sheet coverings the body
like a pillow suffocating a small child.
Shrieks turn to tear of mourning,
the lifeless body being taken away,
muffled screams for someone's help.
A spark's ignition of the fluids all around,
a blaze of fire, the cries grow louder,
suddenly only the sound of crackling flames.
Help, not quite quick enough to help,
a poor girl's life incinerated in the heat,
never to see the mother at home again.
A horrific accident of human error,
took two lives and ruined yet another.
The ringing of the telephone,
it hits the floor when the officer speaks;
her family wasn't coming home.
She cries out in sorrow asking, “Why?!”
Her husband's gun placed to her skull's temple,
“I can't go on like this!” she screams.
A simplistic finger movement,
brings silence throughout the family's house,
blood splattered across the white wall,
another body; cold upon the floor.
