The good reincarnation of Dracula. Although human, Soma is a natural warrior who proves to be very skillful with all types of weaponry and possesses a unique ability, the Power of Dominance. During a sequence of events in Dracula's castle, this power has awakened in Soma, allowing him to harness a fallen foe's power by absorbing its soul into him and projecting it in a variety of attacks (Red Bullet), summons (Blue Bullet), enhancing his powers (Yellow Bullet) and skills (Grey Bullet) according to their potential.
In 2035, Soma lived in Japan as a highschool exchange student studying abroad and sharing classes with his childhood friend Mina Hakuba who is the sole daughter of the shrine's caretaker. They were to meet at the top of the shrine to witness the first Solar Eclipse in the 21st Century when both were knocked unconscious and whisked away to Dracula's Castle. Moments later, an agent from a Japanese Agency named Genya Arikado (an alias Alucard used) who informs them that they are trapped in Dracula's Castle which had been sealed within the eclipse itself.
Before he can explain further, the three are attacked by monsters. Soma steps in front of Mina to protect her from harm when he kills a monster, its soul enters his body. Genya tells Soma of a power that he never knew he possessed awaken the moment he appeared at the castle. Being over-protective of Mina, Soma takes the man's advice and proceeds into the castle where he plans on finding a way to escape this castle with his friend.
Along the way, Soma would meet others in the castle and from them learns that Dracula is indeed dead, but the castle now seeks a new master. Essentially after a series of events that transpired in the castle, it is revealed that Soma's powers are one and the same with Dracula's. Although not wishing to become the next dark lord, Soma encounters a missionary named Graham Jones, a man who thought of himself as Dracula having been born the same year Dracula died. Soma arrives at the Throne Room where he tries to convince a deranged Graham that he only wants to escape the castle with his friends, nothing more. But the missionary, now powerful after absorbing a huge amount of dark energy, intent on killing him. The two engage in battle to which Soma eventually wins, only by doing so the dark influence has been absorbed into him, making Soma dangerously close to being the dark lord.Arikado appears, and tells Soma to go to the Chaotic Realm and confront the Core of Chaos, the source of Dracula's dark power if he hopes to escape from his bonds with the castle.
Encouraged by the words sent telepathically from Mina and their friends, Soma goes into the final chamber where he is able to defeat Chaos, therefore freeing himself from Dracula's inheritance and escaping with everyone from Castlevania as it is drawn back into the eclipse. Soma wakes up to find himself and Mina at the shrine where he's back looking like his old self. In conquering this personal challenge, Soma becomes more open and trusting to those around him, though his mysterious powers still reside within.
A year after the events, Soma is attacked in Hakuba City by a woman named Celia Fortner who plans to assassinate him so that another may rise as the dark lord although she fails to do so thanks to Arikado's interference and escapes. Not wanting to sit back and allow this woman to hurt the people that he loves, Soma goes on the iniative and heads toward Celia's headquarters which is a massive replica of Dracula's castle, once again in possession of his awakened powers.
Within the cult's headquarters, Soma encounters two men Celia had chosen as her dark lord candidates, Dario Rossi and Dmitrii Blinov who, like Graham Jones, were born on the exact time Dracula was destroyed. Both have attempted to eliminate Soma on seperate occasions only to be defeated. However, Celia comes up with one last attempt by playing with Soma's emotions in order to allow the dark influence take over, molding him into the new dark lord. She appears with a captive Mina and kills her infront of Soma who then becomes driven with rage over the death of a loved one and is at the brink of becoming Dracula when Arikado saves him by revealing that this was all Celia's hoax.
Soma’s seismic shift of emotions allows for the self-revival of Dmitrii, whose soul resided in Soma after he was first bested in battle by the former, and he and Celia leave with the declaration that they have gone back to their original plan to simply kill Soma so that Dmitrii can become the new Dark Lord. Soma pursues them to the castle’s Abyss, where he witnesses Dmitrii sacrificing Celia and absorbing the powers of a calamitous demon, and the two are about to do battle when Dmitrii’s soul is overcome and his body explodes into the titanic, monstrous demon Menace which Soma destroys at length after a large-scale battle.
The dark power and souls of Menace suddenly rush into Soma’s body and nearly overwhelm him, once again causing him to come dangerously close to becoming the embodiment of the Dark Lord himself, but through sheer will he resists the influence and escapes the collapsing castle of Celia’s cult, where he rejoins all his friends and allies.
Soma relates to Arikado a certain feeling of guilt he holds for not accepting the role of the Dark Lord, the role that is theologically necessary to be fulfilled in order for God to be truly good, but Arikado assures that though there may be need of a Dark Lord to fill that purpose in the future, there is no reason why it should only be him. Having conquered his final challenge, Soma is free to live his life as it is normally meant.
