Hello! I am Chocobo Princess, and I am a Moderator for Gaia Online. This means that I volunteer my time to do certain things to help make Gaia a better place.

Because moderating keeps me very busy, my Inbox is usually overflowing. hurrah for the semester ending and getting your job application in! i hope you'll get the offer!

i'm still in academia as well! my semester ended a couple of weeks ago. like with past summers, i have all these plans for professional development this summer, like research and doing course preps in advance. unfortunately, in past summers i ended up procrastinating and not accomplishing anything. trying to see if this time will be different. ;_;

i do miss modding, but i think i enjoy being a regular user more. xD i'm happy to see familiar faces like yours still on the team, though! y'all keep fighting the good fight to keep gaia clean! i'll be cheering you on. <3

yeah I'd like to know about some guilds! I'm always looking for new friends
I totally understand that working stress, I'm full time but it just doesn't make ends meet and is so stressful, but it's a job.
I just recently got addicted to Stardew Valley as well >_>;;;
so fun.

I haven't actually read Un Lun Dun, so I can't comment, but I understand where you're coming from. That was a young adult novel, wasn't it? I had the same reaction to Neil Gaiman, whom everyone seems to adore but who seemed to me like someone still in creative writing class. That same "look how clever I am" thing xd Would you consider trying Mieville's The Iron Council and see if you still feel the same about him? Sometimes authors can get it really wrong and then really right lol
If you liked Ellis I think you would really like C. J. Sansom's Shardlake series, but I would recommend reading his books in order, starting with Dissolution.
I loved Name Of The Rose. A couple of other contemporary authors I like are Kazuo Ishiguro and Tracy Chevalier.
Mostly I like older stuff like Dickens and Austen and Wilde. However, my heart belongs to Pratchett forever heart

Oh hai, mod thread locked for now, so I couldn't reply to your reply (replyception?), but I wondered if you are familiar with author China Mieville? Hard to explain, sort of post-apocalyptic/steampunk/fantasy...awesomely original writer, wonderful stuff, can't recommend him enough. Also Iain M Banks (the sci-fi books) and his Culture series, fanstastic wordsmith, and if you like historical fiction - Edward Rutherfurd. C. J. Sansom's Shardlake series for really good medieval whodunnit xd
