It was small and delicate, exceedingly graceful and barely even noticeable in the palm of my hand, as a grasshopper might be amongst waist-high grass. And yet, hidden within all that wonderful elegance and frailty was a power, a symbolic force that could not be reckoned with and would be bestowed upon whoever slipped it upon their person, which would be my soon-to-be bride. The chain was of a soft platinum, pleasingly gentle on the eyes when in dim light and powerfully glinting when the sun caught it at the proper angle, and upon this glorious chain was a small pendant of a small warped teardrop shape, the stone set into it a swirling, opaque gem, her birthstone, the opal. It was a testament to my love for her, something that I had been longing to give her for some times. It was perfectly smallish in that it would fit clenched in my fist so as she wouldnt notice it until the time was absolutely right, just as I had planned it. It was like the very last note in a sonata, or the last glint of light coming from a shimmering summer sunset; My sonata, my sunset, the perfect moment punctuated just as it should be, not with a comma leading into other things and not with a semicolon, the most flaccid and flimsy halfway-done of punctuation, but with a period, or maybe even an exclamation.
I had embraced her and my arms were gently snaking up her back, my hand loosening as I gripped each end of the chain between my fingers. Slowly, slowly, I drew it about her neck, completely stealthy, much like an assassin stalking his prospective target, so that she did not even notice as I clasped the hook behind her ebony neck, allowing it to dangle freely to her chest.
Swiftly I pulled away from out locked embrace, and she looked down to see the chain dangling against her shirt in the dim light of the candles I had lit. It shone starkly against the black cloth, and her jaw dangled much like the platinum chain as she drew her gaze to mine and attempted to make words with those dark, gorgeous lips, before I placed my finger to them and smiled sweetly, mouthing the words For you. She immediately threw her arms around me, crying softly into my shoulder and whispering in soft, cooing sentiments into my ear.
Oh, Love, You, If this is proposal, consider it sealed. I love you, so so much. I chuckled gently, stroking her spine and feeling out every single hill and valley with the tips of my fingers, shushing and nuzzling my cheek against hers. Thank you, Mi Fiore. I couldnt be any happier than I am now.
