My name is Brittany and I am a geek. I am also a girl. Furthermore, I am also a nerd. Before you turn up your nose with the thought that these things couldn't possibly go together, let me explain! It all goes together much better than it sounds!

I was born on July 14th, 1987. My childhood was a happy one, but because of my family's financial difficulties and need to work constantly, I learned to care for myself from an early age. This led to a love of Disney because it was one of my main sources of entertainment at the babysitter's home. I also developed an interest in anime, though I did not learn that my so-called "cartoons" were anime until much later.

Later, when I became a teenager, my grandfather (my mother's mother's second husband) gave me my first Nintendo GameBoy and one game - Tetris. My father and I would have competitions to see who could stay "alive" the longest. We would also play Super Mario World 3 on our SNES; it had been bought several years earlier, but I never had the hand-eye coordination to make any progress in the game previously. My love of video games sprouted from those simple games and remained a part of me into adulthood.

When my grandfather (my mother's father) remarried, he moved out of his home in Tennessee in order to live with his new wife. My immediate family again moved, this time into my grandfather's former home. My younger sister and I finally had different rooms, and the family was mostly financially stable. Around this time, I received a PlayStation (and even later, a PlayStation 2). I vegged out on games like Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and Metal Gear Solid - I was officially hooked! This was especially difficult because it was also the time when I entered high school. I joined the JROTC program and made many great friends. I was skilled in English and science. I expanded my computer skills and played several MMORPGs.

The high school experience ended in a blur of activity, but my grades were great. I entered college seeking a Bachelor's in Science immediately after I finished high school. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University on December 18th, 2010, after majoring in Biochemistry. I never had to study in high school, but college proved that my mind needed some major expanding. I basically never put down a textbook for four years, and in the process, learned many great things you just can't in the real world or in video games. Thusly, my nerd side emerged.

Now that I am newly(ish) out of college, I am hitting my life loves harder than ever - mainly video games on the XBox 360. I still own my PlayStation 2 AND my Gameboy with Tetris, and sometimes whip them out to play. I also still watch anime and reflect on the inner workings of life with my cat...but I'm not sure he cares as much as I do.... mrgreen
